Hopefully Oregon is in November.

Conference slate is definitely more difficult. Considering all the players the Hawks will be losing, it is going to be difficult to become bowl eligible.

Fans won't be happy until we're going 1-2 or 0-3 in the non-conference every year losing to the likes of Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, LSU, etc etc with the occasional pants pooping against Iowa State..........

But hey at least you got to have fun drinking at the tailgate in anticipation of the game against Clemson before we lose!!! :D :D :D

OUCH next year looking the final Fry years and KF initial years with those losses.
KF is quitting after this year. No way he takes 6 to 8 OhioSt losses in one year. Or does he?
Also dump Northern Illinini in 2026 that is a loss

OUCH starting 1-2, maybe. Then crushed by 5 to 6 times in the Big 10. It is going to get really ugly the next two years.

I would rather watch us play a legitimate Power 4 team and lose than pay any amount of money to watch us plaster whatever Albany is - what is the f'ing point? Same for my own kids in their activities - play someone with a pulse that gives you the opportunity for improvement and to make a statement, even if it means you might lose. Can't just beat up on the equivalent of 8-man football teams every year.

Yeah. I don't understand the point of playing Albany either. At least not in football.

FYI. They are the Albany Great Danes. First time we have ever played against that breed i believe.

Looks like they sport LSU type colors.

Albany head coach has heavy Pennsylvania connections, so I think we know who called to line this one up.

Oregon plays in cold weather at Eugene. It won’t be a shock to them.
Def not as cold as some of the Big Ten schools, but November in Eugene is damp and cold. I'm sure they'd survive at Iowa.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a late September/early October game though.

I remember the days when Hayden Fry would schedule the likes of Miami (FL), Oklahoma, UCLA, Nebraska, Penn State, Colorado, Oregon, Tennessee in the non-conference. Now it's a freakin' joke

You do realize Iowa’s non-conference level of opponent isn’t much different than most P-4 schools, don’t you?

Georgia plays UMass and Alabama plays Mercer this year, for cripe’s sake.

Back in Fry’s early years (when most of those teams were on the schedule), Iowa was the “patsy” opponent the bigger schools used to pad their record. Fans always forget that.

I also believe some of those were already on the schedule before Fry arrived. In fact, he complained about it at the time, and as soon as he could he made sure the non-conference games were not as tough.

Wanna bet?

Iowa was paying 1.6M for 2025.

Now paying 1.15M for 2025, and 1.4M for 2030.

I guess that 450k is good money to spend on players. Or half a defensive assistant.

Can you provide examples of teams who do this? Keep in mind Iowa State is a power 4 school. And a pretty decent one recently.

Name some self-respecting programs who choose to play arguably the absolute worst D1 program in the country, plus an irrelevant, out-of-region FCS school in the same season. If it was one of the Dakota programs and a mid-level MAC school, fine I get it. This is just Ferentz working to troll us in every aspect of the program.

So no examples? Iowa is tied to the ISU series for likely ever. That's wishful thinking to replace them with someone else. Is Albany a weak choice? Sure, but its also a last minute filler. SEC teams play similar teams the second to last week of the season.

Some folks just don’t understand that.

They also don’t understand it’s not as easy to fill the non-conference with “legitimate” Power 4 teams as they think it is.
