Possibility of Cook and Wagner growing together is exciting to say the least. Adding Uhl to the mix and damn this team will run like crazy.

Yeah, it will be nice having Uhl to play stretch four on offense while still being able to match up with players like Haas defensively. I view Cook and Wagner in the Woodbury role on offense (zero 3PA, only on the perimeter to pass). Hopefully one or both will develop as a least a threat to shoot if left open. Add Kreiner and Pemsl and we'll have depth in case there is foul trouble or injury. We may even be able to RS someone.

Do we have enough height though?

I believe so. We will have 7 guys that are 6'7" or taller. And all of them can shoot and/or drive, which will spread the floor like very few teams in the country will be able to do(saweet!). Plus we are long. Length is huge. That plus ball handling are Fran's signatures.

Length is almost better than height, and it is when you have the reach and are quicker than the 6'11" post player. Think of the 6'6" Williams and his 7'1" wingspan. He can easily dribble around any bigman out there, then he doesn't hardly have to jump to dunk it or do a reverse layout. His development, and others, will be fun to watch. With players like that, in addition to spreading the floor, we will be fine on offense...
ON the defensive end, he can interfere with passing, block shots and guard close in without much movement. All because of that reach. Just stretch out an arm. And this Iowa team has a lot of that, with us gaining more next year.

Assuming Stone, Bryant, Costello, Hammonds, and Carter are gone we should be okay size wise. Swanagin and Haas might cause some issues, but don't forget we will have some size and fouls on the bench.

The guards will have major adjustments and even if Peter is at the two he'll be defended as the primary option which will make his numbers tough to improve on.

Alot of young talent...Williams, Uhl, Wagner, Jones, Ellingson, Cook, Moss, Hutton, etc. Fran is going to run teams to death with that group. I haven't seen Cook's handles yet...but he will have four slashers in the game at any time...penetrate and dish either inside or back to the three line. It's gonna be fun to watch.

I'm a little worried about getting consistency in the post and half court sets next year. Will we have guys who can create and finish. Obviously not worried about Jok, but, we will be young and challenged most notes in the conference.

I don't have a single worry next year about the front court or wings. If they get good PG play, they'll be a really good team again next season. If they don't, they'll struggle against good teams. It's all about that PG spot.

I'm just treating them as unknowns. I personally have a much better idea of what to expect from the returnees and higher profile recruits.

If Pemsl and Kreiner earn a spot ahead of anyone I know better, then it is a bonus.

Williams has all the physical tools to be a really really good one. Does he have the drive and mental make up to realize all he has to do and learn to get there? Time will tell.

Don't forget that Dale Jones should be back, too.

hopefully Dale is healthy...because we need 3pt shooting next year. When you lose an NBA caliber player, you have a lot to makeup. Excited by Cook, Wagner, Uhl, Baer, and Kriener, but there is big hole to fill.

I like the potential, but let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. If that last few minutes against NW is an example of where we could be next year there's plenty of work to do. I'd happily take 7 B1G wins and an NIT bid next year.

I know I'll get killed for that prediction, but while Peter, Wagner, and Baer generally bring the necessary effort and toughness it's a bit up and down after that. Uhl is a nice talent, but I really want him to want the ball off the boards. He's got the spring to be outstanding if he shows the wanta be.

When Peter is out next year I don't know where we go for points. Defensively we have a very long ways to go with the bench. The learning curve for the freshman will be much more difficult without the senior leadership we've had this year.

I liked what I saw of Jones a lot, really good shooter and rebounder and defense was improving. If healthy I think he starts next year but lots will be up for grabs. We may not win as many but games should be fun

While I'd agree that nothing is a given, you can't really judge how guys will play next season based off a 3 minute span at the end of a blowout win, good or bad.

Again, my only concern going into next season will be PG. They get good PG play, they'll be good next season. Maybe not this season good, but comparable to the last 2-3 seasons good. I'd still expect an NCAA tourney team, but maybe an 8-10 seed instead of a 1-2 seed.

This sounds sensible to me... I suspect we again make the NCAA tournament next year too. But team will have to grow together and gain trust so may take some time to gel

While I like Wagner's hustle and rebounding, I don't think he can dominate on the boards because of his height. And with no scoring, to speak of, I don't think will be a starter. Hopefully he can work on shooting 8-10 ft shots to help a little that way.

I am a Williams believer, but he had a bad day today. Hopefully he grows from this. Rebounding and post defense could be a big problem next year with the lack of height, if Kreiner isn't ready. Cook is also only 6'7"-6'8" per TK.

When Wagner develops a 10 ft shot, he will be awesome. He already has the quick step and fakes. Develop the midrange shot and he will be driving to the basket often.

I look for Wagner to take a major step heading into next season. I have been real impressed with his improvement and development this year. Just wait till he starts to be more than a role player.

Wagner, Uhl, and Peter. That's a nice start. Who will the other 2 be and how quick until the team gels.

Obviously we won't be as good as this year, but I think Iowa will be dancing and will be a strong team by the end of the season.

Williams is't gong to get much better rotting on the bench...it isn't that complicated...

Can he makes free throws?

Have you watched him when he plays. He is a stat sheet stuffer. Starting with rebounds. I will take home rebounding over anyone on our current team.

I think next year is a total "WHO THE HECK KNOWS" type of scenario.

We could be really good! Who knows?

We could be really terrible. Who knows?

Cook and Moss are wildcards as well.

I think Flemming has the ability to the the next Jok to some extent as well.

Who the heck knows....

Should be fun finding out though.

Moss could be a wild card. Cook will be a difference maker right away. I see what you are saying about Flemming but Jok showed more signs that he could be really good as a freshman than GFlemming has.

I'm going to spend all of next year gloating about our 2015 B1G Championship and the Final Four run!

Go Hawks!

Yeah, Wagner can definitely rebound, I have no worries there. Quick jumpers who know position are gold. Clay Hargrave was only 6'4", but the most amazing rebounder I've ever seen. Who was the 6'3" guy that walked in for Tom Davis and rebounded like a demon? Kent Hill at 6'5" is another. Wagner has the rebounding gene.

We really need to enjoy the outstanding ride we're having this year. IA has all the tools to make a very deep run in the dance.

I'd be surprised if we make the NCAA tourney next year. NIT would be a solid accomplishment next year given our lack of experience.

Anybody who isn't concerned about PG next year is living in a fantasy land.

Wagner is gonna be a star!!! he has the it factor. he is one of the best athletes on the team. He rebounds like a man. He can go up strong to the hoop through contact. He looks comfortable with the ball down low. He knows when to pass it out vs go to the hoop. These are things he does not have to learn because he already does them well. his d will improve and so will his mid range shot.

I think he is already my favorite player.

I wasn't able to see the game today...I simply noted the little time Williams has had on the court to date.

PG next year should be interesting...if Williams is as terrible as you suggest.

Hopefully Fran's plan A at PG for the future will be a pleasant surprise for us all.

And if he can make some clutch free throws...well...that is always a bonus.

Is Wagner tall enough to be a guy who can be a starter, or is he better suited as a high energy guy (with tools an talent) you bring off the bench?

There's too much unknown to predict next year. But we are not as inexperienced as people keep making it out to be. PG is the big unknown. Jok senior, Uhl junior and then Ellingson, Wagner, Baer are sophomores. Jones should be back, he's a senior or junior depending on what happens. That's not terribly inexperienced when it comes to college basketball these days. I see a lot of potential with next years team.

Wagner is arguably the best rebounder on the team. Coming into last week he was the team leader in rebounds per 40 minutes. Woody has passed him, but he still averages
10.0 rebounds 2.3 blocks 10.7 pts per 40.

We are going to be spoiled by this year. Next year we have a world of talent but very little experience compared to this year. If we make the NCAA's next year Fran will earn back to back COY honors. (See what I did there?)

Williams just isn't ready to play significant minutes at PG yet. That is understandable considering he didn't play PG in HS. He is blessed with some physical skills. It should be fun to see how he develops. The coaches seem to be pretty good at making players better, so he still might become a really good PG.
