Time to move on from Fran since he refuses to improve the D either by recruitng or hiring an assistant that specializes in defense

And then there's Fran's performance in the big 10 tournament. A quick count, I have at least 4 times that he lost in either a 4/13 or 5/12 match up as the higher seed.

Iowa loses in the post season because their guards get dominated every year. Until Fran can recruit/develop high quality guards the ceiling remains in place.

Practically speaking, there's no such thing as a "higher seed" in an 8/9 game. It's a distinction without any substance whatsoever.
Fran's had a long time to do something decent in the NCAA tourney. Hasn't happened.
Look they tied for 2nd in ACC this year but they've won it previosly under Bennet.
Since I'm living with a 43 year drought in not winning B1G regular season titles and 23 year drought
to Sweet16.....etc.... I would be willing to take a few lean years after we won the National title.
The Furman team that took down UVA probalby would beat this Iowa team. The Charleston team that tave SDSU all they could handle would also probably beat this Iowa team. The level of effort/effectiveness on defense of both Furman and Charleston was much better than any defensive game Iowa put up this year.

I think the fact that Iowa was an underdog going in supports the previous point. There was very little separation between these two teams and Iowa losing to them was no upset.
I'm not saying the teams weren't close, or Auburn shouldn't have been favored (especially 100 miles from home) and obviously 8 and 9 are the closest opening round seeds to the play. As in the OP title, Iowa lost as the better seed three years in a row. Clearly the committee has discussions and decided Iowa should be the 8 and not the 9.

I don’t think Hawk fans should be feeling as bad today as Purdue fans. They lost this year to a 16 seed as a #1. People may have forgotten that they lost last year to a 15 seed. It is hard to make the tournament and even harder to win in the tournament. The shitty officiating in the Big Ten sure doesn’t help any team prepare for tournament play.

He refuses to improve defense? I think it comes down to style of offensive play and almost never having a rim protector. So that does come down to recruiting.
This year’s exit was extremely disappointing. However I don’t think I would have been so down about it if we had met expectations the previous 2 seasons when we were primed for a run. Agree with what a lot of people have said, we need a couple really good guards and better defense to have a chance in March.
I believe Purdue has lost to the #13, 15 and 16 seeds the past few years. Their fans are ready to fire Painter. There’s always someone who has it worse.

Last year Purdue made the sweet16 with Edey and much better guard talent. It was a coach of the year performance that got Purdue/Painter the B1G title this year with Edey and a surrounding cast of 4 scrubs. Purdue DOMINATED the BIG.
Painter has hitched his wagon to Big Man ball and that is a loser in NcAA play. However the rest of the B1G coaches are not setting a high competitive bar because the B1G sucks ass in NcAA play and that is the only measuring stick people outside the B1G care about. The era of Portal, early NBA entry, NIL has changed the basketball landscape and B1G is net loser.
What is wrong with asking Fran to look in mirror and make some changes that would improve Iowa's chances at success in ncaa tourney? Fans ask for Fran to be fired out of frustration with his low ceiling and he seems to have old man disease and will not change to match the information that is in front of him. Defense does matter. Finishing last in B1G in defense and 150 or so in NcAA in adjusted defense is an obvious flaw.
For me it is the teams Iowa loses to, the way they lose, and at critical times (football too) year after year. Then the powers-to-be do not make changes to obvious shortcomings on the field or off the field. IMO, it just demoralizes a lot of the fan base.
