******Iowa @ Illinois Game Thread******

Last time we played, we were down by just 3 at halftime and ended up losing by 4 points.

The Illini, in that game:

* Had 19 offensive rebounds (Iowa had just 9).

* Had a +28 overall Rebounding margin (52-24).

* Had 24 (!!!) SECOND CHANCE points.

Those are just crazy numbers; yet we still almost pulled out a win.

Iowa is playing so much better now, especially on the glass. Don't be surprised when Iowa comes away with the win to secure the #4 seed in the B1G Tournament.

Yep we were a much different team back then. The defense was much worse as was the rebounding. Pretty sure Keegan wasn't 100% for that game either. I'm a little surprised the line isn't closer to even with how the Hawks have been playing. Illinois hasn't covered the last three games at home and lost to the Buckeyes. I see this game as a toss up.

Have to keep kofi from touching the ball on offensive rebounds. Last game he back tipped lots of rebounds that killed us. Fortunately we have been better on the glass. If this continues we have a good shot.
also it would be nice if Frazier doesn’t shoot lights out like he seemingly always does against us that would be nice.

As it stands now, with Rutgers winning and Michigan 9 up under 8 in the second half, even if Iowa loses to Illinois they will be the 5th seed, facing the winner of the Northwestern/Minnesota game with Rutgers playing the winner of Iowa game and the winner of that Friday game would be in line to face Wisconsin.
Could you ask for any better scenario?

Think Kofi had 18 rebounds last game. Filip better bring it or Kris should be getting a bunch of minutes.
 
If Iowa beats Illinois today:


1 Seed, BTT: 16-4 Wisconsin (assuming a win over Nebby)
2 Seed, BTT: 14-6 Purdue (beat Indiana yesterday)
3 Seed, BTT: 14-6 Illinois (vs Iowa)
4 Seed, BTT: 13-7 IOWA (at Illinois)

5 Seed, BTT: 12-8 Rutgers (beat Penn State today)
6 Seed, BTT: 12-8 Ohio State (lost to Michigan today)



If Iowa loses to Illinois today:

If Nebraska beats Wisconsin, Iowa will face the winner of NEB-NW if a 5 seed.

(1) Clinch a share of the B1G Championship.

(2) Clinch the #1 seed in the B1G Tournament.

The winning formula is simple for the Hawks. Win the war on the boards and play intense defense for 40 minutes. Do that and we notch our 23rd win.

I only want to see one thing in this game ....................

Austin splASHing from from near the center court logo just before the last media timeout after Fran puts him in about a couple minutes earlier because he doesn't want to embarrass Illinois any more than his team already has this evening, by leaving his starters and the main bench guys in to run the score up quite a bit more on the home team's Senior Night.

Thanks to Nebraska beating Wisky today, ILL is playing for a share of the B1G regular season title AND the #1 seed in the BTT. So, quite a bit on the line for them tonight. Thanks both Debbie and Wisky.

But would make Iowa winning there tonight even that much more sweet!!

An Illinois win means Iowa would have to play them again before Sunday at the BTT, and also means Wisconsin is on the other side of the bracket in Indianapolis.

Gotta win tonight Hawks.

(oh, and another reason Iowa needs to win tonight.... Wisconsin stays the 1-seed in the BTT, meaning we all stand a real good shot at seeing the 8 Michigan vs 1 Wisconsin 'rematch' on Friday morning/early afternoon)
