it is great to be an Iowa Wrestling fan.

Go Hawks!

Surprised Murin and Ayala aren't any higher than 10th at this point, and that we slipped to #2 in the dual rankings. Fine by me. Underrate our guys and lets see how they respond.

it’s results based. murin didn’t AA and lost to manzona bryant. mckee is ranked 9th and has beaten ayala 3 times. he hasn’t beaten any of the 9 guys ahead of him and all but one are returning aa’s. the non-aa (mastro) beat mckee. he’s a true freshman. he’ll get there.

there’s no real argument to have them higher.

My only quibbles are Barnett (who lost to #12 DeAugustino) above Ayala, and Parco (who did nothing in his loss to #19 Bartlett) over Murin. So I'd advocate for both to be 9th. Not big snubs, but surprised me.

Iowa might be behind Penn State in the dual rankings because Penn State has the higher ranked wrestler in 7 of the 10 weight classes, according to Intermat. Ignoring bonus, Intermat rankings predict a 21-9 dual meet score in favor of Penn State.

parco is a returning aa with much better wins this year and a better loss than murin. really no reason why murin should have jumped over him.

barnett beat mckee. so you have a group of 3 who beat each other, but mckee has beaten ayala 3x and both mckee and barnett are returning aa's, so i don't think there's any justification for ayala to be ahead of either of them other than "he wears black and gold." big ten season is just starting and he just got his shirt pulled. the fact he's as high as 10 already is good.

This team has taken such a turn, from the pressure of being heavy favorites, to being underdogs in the team race at this point.

Hawks now have several guys who could (/should) out perform their current rankings. DA sure looks like a podium guy, and it would be fun to see him get revenge against McKee in B10s and nats. MM, KY, AA all look to like guys who have the blood round as their floor, and any or all of them could find their way into 4 or 5th with a good weekend. Even Warner has a punchers chance of winning the whole thing.

Granted, we seem to have lots of question marks among our hammers, and I can't recall a time PSU significantly underperformed at nationals. But it sure would be fun to have a couple PSU guys stumble and for the team race to still be in doubt on Saturday night, and maybe buoyed by a Hawk or two making a surprising charge through the brackets a la Kyle Conel

Not that I have any issue with the rankings, but you say Parco losing to Bartlett is better than Murin losing to Bryant. Bartlett also lost to Bryant. So wouldn’t that make Bryant better than Bartlett?

Not arguing because I don’t care just food for thought.

bryant has taken a bunch of losses. 5-5 with 4 unranked losses. fringe qualifier. bartlett lost to him, but his overall body of work puts him squarely in the 15-25 type range imo. good wins over ogunsanya and artalona.

but you’re right that it’s within the margins. in that case, parco’s returning aa status and win over another returning aa give him the nod over murin.

Abe still at 18 huh? Does anyone really think there are 17 better guys at 84?

God forbid he loses a match, he'll fall to the pigtail round.
just hasn’t had a chance to wrestle anybody yet. was hit for the high schooler loss, and rightly so. big opportunity against romero coming up.

Maybe... but with his record if he had a white belt on his singlet he'd be in the top 10.
