InterMat released updated rankings this morning. Iowa remained #2 in the Tournament Rankings and #3 in the Dual Rankings. For Dual Rankings it remained Penn State-Oklahoma State-Iowa-Northern Iowa. The Tournament Rankings remained the same with Penn State-Iowa-Oklahoma State-Nebraska. From last...

It’s crazy to see that Iowa has five wrestlers ranked in the top 3 and is a very distant second…that’s insane! Especially when you compare the results for Brands’ winning teams from early in his tenure. This Hawkeye team would be a heavy favorite under the pre-Cael era that garners top p4p recruits at ALL TEN weights.

And the Flo rankings are even better.

The gap between where Intermat sees Iowa and where Flo sees them has never been bigger this season (based on expected points).

107 points would be a good year for Brands. Important to note how much effort (in dollars and transfers) were necessary to get there (if we do get there). And this just gets us to #2. We're another 50 points back from #1. But it's an important step. (And from a non-statistical POV, this has been the most enjoyable season to watch since 2020-21, because we have good wrestlers on the mat at most weights.)
