Fairwell to all hawk seniors. Pre-season, this matchup looked like a snooze fest. Glad there will be some good matches....

125- Oliver #19, slick true freshman. Doesn't have the mental strength to keep up with Gilman though. Will be tough in future years though, IMO. Gilman major/pin.

133- Shepard vs. Clark. Shepard stuck Brancale earlier in the year but other than that hasn't looked great. Had a close match with JDJ. Clark major.

141- Weaver vs. Grothus. Grothus uses the funk. Pin.

149- Blanton vs. Sorenson. Don't kid yourself, Blanton is one tough SOB. The higher the competition, the better he wrestles. Handily has wins over H Stieber and Short. That said, Sorenson dec. Good match

157- Danishek vs. Coop. Actually not a bad matchup. Danishek relatively tough. Coop dec.

165- Rhoads vs. Martin. Martin hasn't looked great. Rhoads improving. Rhoads dec.

174- Jackson vs. Meyer. Jackson is a dang good wrestler and don't tell yourself otherwise. Jackson dec. Match of the night.

184- Iowa pin

197- Burak pin

285- Goldman vs. Stoll. Stollhouse major

Carton will be the starter for this dual.

If Meyer manages to beat Jackson he will likely be the #1 seed at B1Gs. Nickal has clearly had a better year, but if Meyer goes undefeated in conference I'd be surprised if he does not get the 1 seed. A win over Jackson is nice, but avoiding Nickal or Brunson until the finals would be better news.

Kind of surprising to me. Given that it is Senior night and all.

Agree. Also surprising because it doesn't seem to make much sense. We're getting close enough to Big Tens that Brody needs to have his weight under control consistently. Plus, he needs some wins to help his seed at Big Tens. Plus, senior night. I think it's time to hand Brody the reins and turn him loose. I also want to see him win his last match in Carver and trot off to a standing ovation. Absolutely nothing against Topher at all, but this should be Brody's night to shine, IMO.

I thought the same thing when I heard it from a buddy of mine that attended the Hawk party.
I was at the hawk party and didn't hear this. Did your buddy hear it from the coaches?

I think it will be Brody, but that and 4 bucks will get you a Carver cone.

Any senior backups that may get to make an appearance? Kadel?

This is surprising -- although somebody earlier said Tom didn't want Brody to do more than one weight-in a week.

Ok I buy that and I can see some logic in that. However this is all thats left until the Nat Duals

02/05/16 vs. Indiana * Iowa City, Iowa 7:00 PM CT
02/12/16 at Montana State - Northern Havre, Montana 8:00 PM CT

Meaning its been one week since Minny and no sunday duall following this meet. . Its SR night. Time to honor a SR who put himself in the hospital for the good of the team last season.
Plus he needs to get on the winning side of the conference record. what is he 1-1. 2-1 looks a lot better.

Only possible good reason to sit Brody is if sitting him lowers his BIG seed or mathmatically would put him in someone path from another team that we could try and block them qualifying or risk an at large. Kinda like Gilman and Minny 125 a few years back. Take away a AQ because Clark was going to steal it. But I cant see that type of deal. Its not like you want Micah Jordan or Gullibon in his opening round match? Whats Brody going to have to do to get an AQ and would being at 1-1 vs 2-1 alter his path?

Heck i dont know, maybe they want Gullibon and Brody to go at it?. Anyone want to calculate 141 seeding and bracket paths? How many AQ's is 141 from BIGs getting?

Saw the Carver Cone tonight and the Announcer for the basketball game described it as a George Costanza moment when that kid was consuming it. Cone was 1 foot high of ice cream.
BTW - I hope it is Brody on SR night

Good rundown Storm...Weaver is a tough out so I don't know if it will go to a pin. I believe he is from Michigan and grew up wrestling with the Massa bros

125: Gilman MDec. Oliver 4-0
133: Clark Fall Shepherd 10-0
141: Grothus Dec. Weaver 13-0

184: Brooks MDec. Irick 30-0
197: Burak MDec. Masengale 34-0

Oliver and Jackson are good, but they're not beating Gilman and Meyer in Carver. Going to be pretty lopsided.

And this win should solidify our Betty Crocker award, presented annually by PSU fans.

I think senior night was completely disrespectful to the Hawkeye seniors. Why military night on the same night? I thought we were going to celebrate the seniors at the beginning of the dual. When they didn't, I thought it was a good move; it would be best to do it at the break. And yet somehow we watch people ride down a rope. I'm not sure what was impressive about that. What is impressive is the amount of talent and the 5 years of unbelievable hard work and dedication the seniors put into this program. And they were an afterthought, announced as fans were leaving the arena. Disappointing.

I think they do their ceremony after the meet so as not to distract any seniors that still may need to compete after the break. And before the meet, guys are getting ready for battle and probably don't have any interest in a ceremony.

Wrestling is such an intense sport where guys are so ultra-focused before competition, I can understand why they don't interrupt the guys' preparation for competition with the ceremony. That said, it would be nice if the fans would just stay seated and cheer the seniors on as they're introduced after the meet. Maybe they could do a better job of announcing that there will be a ceremony for the seniors afterward. I wasn't there last Friday night, and maybe they did so.

They've done the senior introductions at the end of the last home meet for at least a few years. The announcer did say something about sticking around, but of course many people didn't.
