IOWA CORN CY-HAWK SERIES EXTENDED THROUGH 2027

IOWA CITY, Iowa - - The University of Iowa and Iowa State University have extended the contract that will ensure the Hawkeyes and Cyclones compete in the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series football game through the 2027 season. The joint announcement was made Thursday by Gary Barta, Henry B. and Patricia B Tippie Director of Athletics Chair, and Jamie Pollard, director of athletics at Iowa State.

Iowa and Iowa State have played annually since resuming the series in 1977 in Iowa City, other than 2020 when the game was canceled due to Covid-19. The teams first met in 1894, with Iowa holding an overall 46-23 advantage in the all-time series after winning six of the last seven meetings.

The latest extension calls for the teams to meet in Iowa City on Sept. 12, 2026, and in Ames on Sept. 11, 2027. All terms of the previous contract are unchanged.

There's an out clause if either conference adds a conference game. But count me as one of the idiots who would be fine without ever playing ISU. But if it HAS to happen, once every three years would be plenty. I'd much rather do what other Big Ten teams have and are doing--play a noteworthy P5 team like Alabama, Clemson, North Carolina, Mississippi, LSU . . . To me, those would be much more interesting contests than playing any ISU team.

How many schools will be in the B1G by then and will the Big 12 even exist?

Little to no upside for Iowa in beating the school from Ames, which didn't happen this year. Would be in favor of a hiatus or a two years on and two years off scheduling.

Or they could add games to the schedule......money is money.
I predict that by 2026 the B1G will have a 10-game schedule and the NCAA will allow 13 reg season games. This would allow teams to have a non-conf road game every year and still have 7 home games. Therefore, Iowa could keep the IA St series but continue playing home-home series with other major programs like they did pre-2016.
