Agree, QB Spencer Petras is better than last year. He has plenty of film to learn and build from, after Week 1. He faced a solid back 7 in the Hoosiers on Saturday, in Kinnick. Victory, no turnovers and he dialed in some good moments, set up by good game plan from the coaching staff. Iowa took their film work seriously against Indiana. Let's hope it continues in Ames on Saturday.
Iowa's offensive line and running game need to be more consistent. They are young and C Tyler Linderbaum wasn't 100% on Saturday, after taking a helmet to his leg. RBs Tyler Goodson and Ivory Kelly-Martin each had a fumble. Unlike the Purdue opener last year, Iowa didn't have the penalties to go with those two fumbles.
Iowa's TEs were B1G in the opener, but against Iowa State, the Hawkeyes are going to need all men on deck in the passing game. In all phases of the offense, special teams and defense.
Iowa clearly brought a high level on defense and special teams in the B1G opener. They will be huge heading to Ames.
Iowa won the 78th meeting against Indiana, taking the 8th win in 9 games for Kirk Ferentz in the solid 34-6 performance.
