On November 13th, while the Hawkeyes took care of business against Minnesota at Kinnick, the Wolverines squared off with a common opponent with Iowa.

Michigan beat Penn State 21-17 in State College. Iowa beat Penn State 23-20 at Kinnick, so how can the Hawkeyes force a close and competitive game on Saturday in Indianapolis against the Wolverines, like the Nittany Lions did?

B1G Offensive scoring: Michigan is #2 at 34.1, while Iowa is #8 at 25.2.

B1G Defensive scoring: Iowa is #3 at 18.8, while Michigan is #5 at 19.9.

Now, Iowa hasn't played at the defensive level, since the Penn State game, but hopefully, the Hawkeyes can raise to the occasion on Saturday.

The Hawkeyes will likely need to play well in all three phases of the game.

PSU QB Sean Clifford and Iowa Spencer Petras aren't exactly equal, but one can only hope the Hawkeyes step up with their A Game on Saturday. Clifford ranks #6, with Michigan Cade McNamara #7, and Iowa's Petras comes in at #10.

Both starting Quarterbacks on Saturday would likely be classed as game managers.

Penn State wasn't outstanding running the ball in 2021, but they had some positives against Michigan.

Michigan ranks #3 in B1G rushing, behind Wisconsin and Minnesota. Iowa went 1-1 in those games.

The serious issues at Wisconsin was turnovers by Iowa that lead to the Badgers 20-0 Halftime lead. The Hawkeyes have to clean up mistakes, turnovers and allowing explosive plays.

Clearly, easier said than done.

After Michigan's 38-17 win over Wisconsin, the Wolverines nearly lost a 32-29 game at Nebraska. The Hawkeyes are coming off a 28-21 win over the Huskers.

The home crowds will not be there for either program.

Iowa has two losses this season. Michigan loan loss was 37-33 at Michigan State.

Defense clearly wins championships. This is the case on Saturday.
