Iowa @ Ok St. PBP

Stoll the new way Iowa wrestles or is it the old way. Push, push, never took one shot. Sorry T Gilman, that speech you made beginning of the week should of been made to your teammates!
Stoll wrestled as the big guy against the much quicker, smaller guy. He's not gonna win any shots going around.

The one thing he couldn't afford to do though was give up that early takedown.

Well I sure hope we can stay in the top 5 after today. Clark will drop to 3 or 4, BS will drop to 3 now we NEED some upsets. At least my 2 favorite wrestlers won. Its a long ways from March but remember what happened last year when we spanked them.
Seedings for nationals will be interesting now. This sure will make things tougher.

With too good legs Stoll was really coming on last year before the injury. A guy his size not having the power he needs to go down to the mat and move around makes it a lot tougher. His mobility and explosion are a good ways behind where they were pre injury.

We need a heavyweight.

Gilman, Clark, Carton, Kemerer and Brooks wrestled their asses off. St. John and Wilcke were simply outmatched. Stoll is hard to gauge if injury is still the reason for his inability to defend leg attacks from a much smaller guy. He should have been able to belly down on him.

Sadly, Sorenson and Meyer wrestled with ZERO urgency. As good as Sorenson is, he fell the way everyone keeps saying Heil will. If you keep trying to win close matches it is going to catch up to you. Collica didn't do much either, but the returning NCAA runner up needs to step up and attack after seeing what happened to Clark. He wins that match, the momentum shifts and Iowa wins that dual. Still better now than in March. I think Brandon learns from this and beats Collica in regulation when it counts.

IMHO, Stoll still hurt. Would not even attempt a stand up at the end of the third. We'll have no scoring from that weight at BIGs or St Louis.

I think next time we wrestle in Carver, we should whip out the mat that takes up the entire floor, so they have to wrestle and can't flee the mat.

We only have a few guys that actually have a good offense on their feet.

Proud of Gilman.
Proud the way Topher wrestled even with the loss.
Proud of Kemerer, love his offense.
Proud of Sammy, I was yelling for the tilt!!! Too bad he didn't get the pin on the cradle, damn close.

Meyer, ugh.
Clark, I predicted the loss. To me he seemed like he's still injured.
Sorensen, smh. Where's the offense from the #2 guy in the nation? No different than last year.
Cash should walk home for getting ridden like a freaking mule.
Stollhouse? Not sure what to say other than I knew he was going to give up a late TD.

Lastly, that pin that was called was WAAAAYYYYYY quick.

I agree - make a point of this idiot. Not a fan of JS at all. Yeah he won 2 gold medals - pretty sure he did not stall his way to that. But jeez - Does he know the sport is bigger than him and OKST? The sport is dying ... and his coaching style sucks for the sport.

I know St. John won at this last tournament head to head but I would still rather see Moody at 165 if Gunther is out.

And I never heard where Otis Denis was at during the match. Maybe he was "marking" Tognetti's car for future recon work.

Exactly. Schaefer did the only offensive things in the entire damn match. I can see why Stoll is so good at greco but damn son this isn't greco. Grab a leg!

More ways to score than to just grab a leg. Stalling should absolutely be called every time a wrestler backs out. That being said, stalling also needs to be called more frequently when one wrestler is taking multiple shots and the opponent is just blocking off or sprawling.

If all he's going to do is push, then he deserves to lose. Pushing for the sake of pushing is stalling and should be called as such. He can get to legs and score points but decided against it today.

He isn't just pushing for the sake of pushing. He's pushing to setup a throw or other offensive attack. His opponent, however decided to just back out of bounds rather than wrestle. That is stalling.

Not to break up a good whiny rant, but go back, rewatch, and count actual shots. And for the record, the ref could just as easily have called Stoll as he did Schafer-Stoll did absolutely nothing but lock up and push.

Boyd being pinned? Dont know, couldnt tell from my angle. May have been.

Clock operator? Seemed to me that it took about a half second every time to change the riding time. Reaction time.

not about today at all - this is about the last 15+ years watching his teams stall every match except for the 1 or 2 guys that can really wrestle - just about the future of the sport - and small mats and stalling on the edge. I'm in CA and with 30K HS wrestlers - and most CA state colleges drop the sport due to no interest. Yikes. If you really believe in all your heart that stalling and not being aggressive is the way to save the sport. God bless you. But I really love what Cale and TnT are trying to do. Can Smith come on board with the Save wrestling train?

he never tried a throw, or anything else but lock up and push. Only offensive attacks were Schafers

Tough to throw when opponent just backs out of bounds. I agree that Stoll should have been hit for stalling more(when Schafer was shooting and Stoll was sprawling or blocking), but to say that Schafer or any other wrestler who backs out of bounds shouldn't be called for stalling is a complete lack of understanding of wrestling.

Also, I doubt Schafer would have been shooting if Stoll had just back pedaled out of bounds the entire match. Backing out of bounds is the most egregious form of stalling from neutral. It's why the new OB rules had to be put in last year. Too many Molly Putzes backing up and playing the edge and scampering out of bounds at the first sign of trouble.

Your delusional bp. Cael is hot and recruiting great but what has Tom and Terry done the last 5 years that John hasn't?

small mats? You do realize the NCAA mandates the size, don't you? Look at the # of actual shots taken, also. While I wish that it was wide open for my enjoyment, it hasn't been that way for the 40+ years I have watched college. Rarely happens when two evenly matched opponents are on the mat.

If you understood wrestling, you would know that it is very difficult to avoid going backwards, when someone has both arms clamped, outweighs you by 40-50 lbs, and just pushes. I thought Schafer did an admirable job most of the time to circle in. I think Schafer deserved a warning, and maybe one stall point. But so did Stoll....

I understand what you are getting at, but Schafer was trying to circle and was getting blocked. There was 45 lb difference, not much you can do to not get pushed around.

It may help to wrestle a dual against a quality opponent or two before wrestling the number 1 ranked dual meet team.
