Talk about low information voters:

For years, businessman and media personality Donald Trump pushed the falsehood that President Barack Obama wasn’t born in the United States.

He even sent investigators to Hawaii in 2011 to research the issue, and when Obama ultimately produced the long-form birth certificate, Trump claimed credit for forcing him to do so.

Now the front-runner in the Republican race to succeed Obama as president, Trump apparently remains unconvinced. When asked about Obama's provenance by CNN’s Anderson Cooper in July, he replied, "I don't know. I really don't know."

Turns out a majority of Iowa’s likely Republican caucusgoers — 59 percent — share Trump’s skepticism.

The new Des Moines Register/Bloomberg Politics Iowa Poll asked: “Do you believe Barack Obama was born in the United States or not?

Just 42 percent say yes, he was born in the U.S., with the remainder divided between those who express confidence he was not (35 percent) and those who do not know (24 percent).

Among Trump’s supporters, though, even more believe Obama wasn’t born in the U.S. (46 percent); 25 percent aren’t sure; and 29 percent say he was born in the U.S.

Democratic caucusgoers don’t share Republicans’ doubts: 91 percent say Obama was born in the U.S., 3 percent say not in the U.S. and 6 percent aren’t sure.

Just so we're totally clear on this, here is how the poll results look. Remember, the question is whether or not people believe Obama was born in the US:

OVERALL: 42% YES, 35% NO, 24% UNSURE

TRUMP SUPPORTERS: 29% YES, 46% NO, 25% UNSURE

So, look at those numbers for a really long time. If you really believe Trump supporters are "uninformed" because of this belief, then you have quite a few other uninformeds out there as well not even supporting Trump.

Iowa Republicans seem to be a rather dull bunch. Easily manipulated, as evidenced by the Santorum results last go-round, and willing to re-elect a governor who seems more interested in setting some term record, than actually doing something positive for the State.

If Iowa wasn't the first-in-the-nation political test, we would be irrelevant on the National scene. While the Dems aren't a whole lot better, this State's GOP seem more laughable. Just look at the whole Bachmann/Paul supporter scandal and you see what I mean. Criminal charges for something that happened in the caucuses??? Ha Ha!

I'm not a republican, but count me in the "unsure" category. Why he held out for so long to begin with was always puzzling to me. I'd say it's very likely the Birth Certificate was legit, but due to the delay/denial leading up to it, I can't be certain.

Reality check: It doesn't matter anymore.

In complete agreement with this. Unsure. Generally, when you are "innocent" of some charge you will immediately prove your innocence. It is natural to do so, and not wait months.

You know I have to give it up to Trump. When he went birther I thought he was a crazy buffoon. Now I see he was just setting the stage to be king of the buffoon party. Crazy like a fox.
Yup, aim for the lowest common denominator and in the Republican party, that is pretty low. Bunch of dimwits.

1. It could be such a stupid charge you don't feel the need to defend yourself right away.
2. There is a not too conspiratorial theory that the Birther nonsense helped Obama by focusing attention on the loony right. Perhaps the Obama camp took their time for a reason. The Birthers were great fundraisers for Obama.

I think there's a significant number of people who didn't care if he was or not.

It also goes to why he won't release his College transcripts and records. I think just about every POTUS has done that in modern times. What's he hiding? Did he take government money as a foreign student?

I'll just paste this from above:

Oh wait, every other POTUS of late has done this?

Well then, you're just racist.

Almost no president in modern times has released their college transcripts.

He was born in the US. The only problem is that the dad on the BS was wrong. His real dad is Frank Marshall Davis. The pornographer/ black panther.

Talk about low information original posters......

I know, 59% of people either say "no" or "not sure". I'm pretty sure if a presidential election goes 59-41, the OP would call that a landslide. Actually, the OP would paste something from the Washington Post calling it a landslide, if you want to be factually correct.

At this point who gives a shit. I just want this 7 year failed liberal-progressive experiment on the country I love to be over.
I love this country too. Can I be a part of your country even if another Democrat is elected President?

Why do anything? The birthers were GOLD for Obama in '08. They made the GOP look like "morans" and forced every candidate to answer The Question...repeatedly. Why would the Obama campaign do anything to change that?

At this point, anyone who is still "unsure" as to Obama's citizenship is an OiT-grade idiot.
