So what happened?

Nate didn't wrestle. Block, Kueter, Peterson and Arnold went undefeated. All by TF or pin except for Arnold who had a maj up at 195. We'll let him slide on this one ;) Hernandez bonused his way to the finals where he won 3-0. KH is a returning state champ at 113 up at 120. The kid he beat was the defending state champ at 120.

Results posted.

We made our way over to City High for the City-Western Dubuque meet. It was surreal cheering for City High as a West High grad. Once we got over that, it was a pleasure watching Gabe and Ben compete.

Kinda weird that Western Dubuque actually won the meet, but man, those two kids are studs. Granted, their opponents were extraordinarily overmatched, but both guys are extremely technically sound and polished.

I was especially impressed by Gabe’s combination of quickness, power, and technique. That dude is gonna be a problem for D1 184-pounders. His slide-by is probably the most violent, explosive, and technically sound I’ve ever seen at any level.

Also impressed by Gabe’s support for his teammates. He was out there slapping hands and cheering on his guys much of the meet. Somebody raised him well.

That's a lot of good that happened.

I hate that I missed the dual. I was on a plane from GA that didn’t land until after the dual was over. I gotta say, Gabe LOVES his teammates. Those guys are already thick as thieves, and you would literally think him and Ben share the same dang brain cell. As for Gabe’s raising, that’s ALL his mama. Education and Etiquette and all her. Heck, he’s so far advanced now that I can’t even take credit for his prowess on the mat. All I can do is sit back, smile, and be extremely grateful of the journey that’s brought him HOME.

I’m a little frustrated by Kueter’s inability to score points in the 3rd period😉
I wish you guys could have been there to watch this kid. I’ve been around wrestling my entire life. Most of you know my bloodline but Ben? This kid is the real deal. I hate that there’s not much to challenge at this point of the game, because you can tell, that’s what he wants. But when you’re that far ahead of everyone else, that’s a pretty big ask.

As for Gabe’s performance at 195?? That literally felt like watching a flea trying to bite a bull. The Hartz kid was a large human. Gabe walks around now near 180 or so. You could tell the other young man had a healthy, regular diet of Iowa corn, for sure. 😂

City has two or three other guys that should score some decent points at state. Just haven’t put together that complete team yet. Going to try and catch the City/West dual this year.

I think I read he is taking some time off the mat. Not sure if it’s injury or just needing some time off the mat. Looking forward to seeing him compete again for sure though.

Thanks for the report. Obviously as Hawk fans we want recruits that can compete at the highest level and Gabe seems to fit that bill. What makes it even sweeter is when the recruits we get are great people as well. Looks like Gabes going to be easy to root for.
