it is great to be an Iowa Wrestling fan.

Go Hawks!

Those numbers look impressive, especially those top 5 recruits and the hammers in the P4P discussions. That said, does history indicate that the top 15 - top 25 studs can make the leap that will be necessary to compete with PSU a couple years down the road? Just curious. I always want to see a path that leads to beating PSU. I respect their program and their team, but I still want to beat them EVERY single time. :)

You might to use your Magic Eight Ball on that question. How would anyone know how a high school kid’s accomplishments would translate to college unless it’s a wrestler like Spencer.

This is for the 2016 season. There are other statistics out there for other years

I know everybody wants Mendez but out of what’s left I really want Arnold, Franklin and Barr before Mendez. But that’s just me.

So 56 of top 100 were All Americans in 2016. So that's 56 (of 80 spots) out of 500 (top 100 x 5 years of "eligibility ")? Meaning 44 of 80 spots are from outside top 500? That's a different story, no?
You mean 24 out of 80 were from outside of top 100?

Are the top 20 not rolled into the top 100 figures?
No. The top 20 are not rolled into the top 100.
22 wrestlers ranked in the top 20 p4p, finished 4th or higher at NCAA’s In 2016. Another 10 ranked 21 to 100 finished 4th or higher.
The association between place and ranking is noticeable until about ranking 25.
There was an analysis done by Black Shoes Diaries showing the correlation between top Hs p4p recruits and High NCAA Placement over multiple years. I can’t seem to find it.
The OP asked a question and I tried to answer it with something factual.

As positive as recruiting has been for the Hawks this year, there is only one top P4P recruit thus far (Jesuroga at #3 overall, class of ‘23). I realize that “we love our guys,” but analysis consistently shows the importance of getting top 10-20 recruits (calling @TarpHawk). Hoping for more to come…
MatScouts has Kueter #9 in Class of 2023.

Thanks for pointing that out. I referenced Todd’s blog that listed Kueter as #4 at 220. Definitely good news, although several folks have pointed out that wrestling could take a backseat to football.
In general, I agree with your point. Class of 2022 has no elite recruits but Riggins is #25 and Franklin #27. Should be solid starters for multiple years but are not projected to be high point scorers at nationals.

Thank you for the explanation.

Thank you for the detailed response, my friend...I really appreciate it! I'm very excited about this year and excited but nervous going forward. Just hoping the studs coming in as well as those that have been hitting it hard in the room can mix it up with PSU next year and beyond. Can't wait for the season to get going!! :)

I totally get it. Was just curious if anyone had any kind of stats that talked to past ranked HS kids. Big thanks to Inthercircle for providing what I was looking for. :)

So, would someone call Tommy and tell him to tell M’Star to focus on realing in top 20 National recruits instead of top 20 Iowa kids? J/k (Unless they’re 3-A.)

From what I understand, Tom does not put a lot of emphasis on rankings.
