the good news, I think.
The younger wrestlers are good. They are willing to mix it up for 7 minutes.
Brands has done a better job of recruiting.

Just hope the young wrestlers continue to progress. Current group of 5th yr seniors was one of Coach Brands top recruiting classes when they arrived but it is amazing how little progress they've made over the past 5 yrs. Just hope one of them makes it past the qtrs and the others fight through the wrestlebacks.
At least Nick Moore made a shot attempt in the 3rd period. I counted 2 attempts. For him, a decent effort. Unlike Hunter Stieber, Moore injuries affected his ability to shoot. Moore's injuries will prevent him from winning Olympic medals in 2016.

Yup, kick rocks Seniors. Only reason you even had a chance at Nationals this year was thanks to underclassmen. You guys are one big stinking disappointment.
Telford lost too! Wow and double wow! I did not see that coming at all, the Hawks are effectively done at this point in terms of team title hopes. They'll be doing good to finish in the top four or five at this rate.
Maybe they switched uniforms with the Cyclone BB team!

I had this group pegged all year.
If they wrestle like crap in the consolation bracket we better not get lectures about the flu, injuries, how dedicated these guys are. That was pathetic, but expected
I expect 3 of the 4 to go soon. Evans will need to win it for this group of seniors to have a NC
Still a long ways from over. Unbelievable how easily some of our fans give up. Hopefully our wrestlers have the guts to come back even if some of our fans don't.
Road is definitely harder, but Jeva can come back - maybe to R12 or low AA (not likely, but possible). We need Bobby to come back and still finish as a high AA - hopefully with some bonus on the back side and the guys on the front side to keep up the good work.

Eff this crap. Something needs to change. We waste the first period time and again then push people around and have to try and gut out a 3rd period win. Pathetic and this is the first round. Opponents will only get tougher. I hope the next wave of recruits have a killer instinct. Right now it's embarrassing to be an iowa wrestling fan. No heart from some of these guys.
Jack, the frustration is with the seniors. We could win but judging by these guys character, I expect half of them to lose next round. #1 recruiting class 3 are seeded in the top 5 and they look horrible. Just plain horrible. If we win it'll be because of our young guys. I just hope the same regression doesn't happen with them like it did with this sad group

These guys need to stop trying. Don't even bother wrestling the rest of the tournament because you know you're gonna make mistakes and lose again anyways regardless of how much (or little) you try to re-motivate yourselves for your remaining matches.
Absolute joke, fellas. Keep doing nothing. Don't get mad at yourselves. You won't do anything about it anyways. You never do.

The worst part of this senior class is they've really been handled with kids gloves, with the exception of Jeva. Excuse after excuse--flu, injured, training angry, bad calls, opponent stalled, opponent superman.
The new mantra should be: if it hasn't happened by year 3 in the program, find someone else. Jeva, Moore are gate-keepers--if you can't beat them you probably won't AA. Dan Dennis was an aberration.
Telford never learned how to change levels or win scrambles, except maybe in the 3rd period before losing to perennial placeholder Meyers. Moore and Kelly were simply too slow footed and unable to understand basic situational awareness. Jeva should have been able to bench his weight after 5 years in a D1 wrestling program, but I guess he was injured all 5 years.
Dedication alone is not enough. Results matter. Too many other programs doing more with less.
Zero National Champs from this group. Evans will not win, not averaging .25 (that is 1/4 per match) take downs per match in the post-season to date.
