Iowa Sets an All-Time NCAA Division I Record for Team Assist-to-Turnover Ratio

Yea, unfortunately another meaningless stat at this point. Kind of like have one of the greatest 3 point bombers in league and NCAA history, and the guy literally can't get a shot off against a good defender in a game that meant so much to him and his team. Sorry Fran just could not care less at this point after watching the three "leaders" on that list get SMOTHERED and out classed in such a big game on national TV. :(

Record Assist to TO ratio and bounced out of NCAA tourney in a blowout.

I guess Iowa's implosion vs Oregon ought to take some wind out of sales of the Fran can do no wrong CMAC crowd. Assist to TO was the only stat CMAC did that was above average. CMAC is a Good role player and deserved 10-15 minutes per game minutes and his coach Father played him starter minutes even though he was injured/not healthy. No Wonder CMAC 3pt shooting went downhill.

When you have the best post player in the game and you're averaging all of 3 assists per game that's hardly a stat to hang your hat on. CJ led the nation while averaging less than 2 assists per game. JBO had more assists per game and nearly an identical ratio in conference play this year. It's a great stat for the team but Connor hardly stands out from the rest statistically.

The "Fran can do no wrong CMAC crowd"?

I've been on this board a lot, and I have yet to meet any of these people, certainly not an entire crowd. 🤓

i think its just a reminder of how good the Iowa offense was

80 points should win you a game

once again its the defense that let us down

and the NCAA Tournament is all about match ups and Oregon was just a bad, bad match up for the Hawks

I guess, but other then Luka, and to a small degree Joe W. who had a good offensive game for Iowa? Jbo, Cmac and CJ went OFER!

You need vacation from all things Hawkeye for a while. Do yourself a favor.

And YOU need to stop telling people what to say or think. I enjoyed watching the first half yesterday and then we got our collective asses handed to us in the second half. Yes, this is getting old. Please point out anything I posted that isn't the truth. Our three guards got SMOTHERED, period. As for the stat, thats fine, excellent, whatever. Can you win when the games mean something as our fearless PG kept telling us was the reason he came back, and the answer is, well everybody saw what the answer was, and no assist/to stat makes up for what we just saw......

It's a game. That's all.

What if Fran dose t play injured players, that struggle with defense when healthy, for healthy players that can play defense?

what of (as some on this board have posited) started defense 1st guys Perkins and Murray and then let jobo, Wieskamp and Luka hunt their shots? what if Fran vallued defesne and rebounding more tham say offesnse and feeding the post?

fran had options, he just chose to play the standard (and hobbled) players

In the meantime, Iowa women are leading by 27 in their 2nd round game. Men's program should take note. Or maybe Lisa Bluder should coach both teams.
The Iowa women have the worst defense statistically in the country and you want the men's program to take note.

Seriously, WTF.

If you want to take jabs at Fran and his program, please come up with something more clever.

We were up by 4 with 4 minutes to go in the 1st half. Fran made the decisions he made based on what he knew from the players and from the medical personnel.

When CJ, Connor & JBo were ineffective, Fran rightfully pulled them.

Fran tried pulling all the levers in order to win the game.

Everybody said we had this deep roster but then we lost Jack for the season. Jack was a rim protector & great rebounder. And then CJ had the foot issue, where one day he wakes up fine and the next it is throbbing and he can't play. Losing CJ was a huge blow. We don't know when Connor incurred his hip issues and how severe they are. Wiesy tweeked his Achilles during the game.

So, Iowa was banged up and our overall team health seemed to be deteriorating right before our eyes; meanwhile, Oregon had gotten healthy prior to the start of the NCAA Tournament.

SO what changed in that last 4 minutes and the first 5 min. of second half where we go from 4 up to 18 down?
in my mind this game was lost in that 9 minute period.
But I am also telling my buddies--Ralph Miller would have won that game 110-106......without the shot clock or 3 pt shot....
Both Bluder and Fran play sort of the same way--they want to play high scoring loose . fun to watch bball.
Tom Davis was the same way as well. I guess you have to pick your poison, we all make fun of Wisc bball and how boring it is, I enjoy what we have, either way it is fun when you win and bad when you lose.
My dog is still recovering from the wrestling and the guys won the title.....
It is also good to see such passion from Hawk fans, now let's all buy tickets--Show up!--and be loud---and let the chips fall where they may....Go Hawks...

defense and playing quick, athletic teams have always been this program's achilles heel ever since Fran arrived, unfortunately

and injuries really did us in this year. CJ has a beautiful shot and is good at perimeter D. After his injury, both his O and D suffered.

Agree whole heartedly, win and we are great--lose and screw the bums. That's sports right? I just read a snippet this morning and it seems Kofi has been getting some racist tweets after the Ill loss.
Just sad........

Tough crowd. I think the thing here is the low number of turnovers for such a high scoring offense, which I would take to be a sign of a well coached team.
I would agree that valuing the ball is a great team attribute. The entire team was good at not turning it over really, but it sure helps when the guy who handles it the most is so good at hanging on to it, even in heavy traffic in the paint. We are going to miss watching Luka Garza on the offensive end for sure.

The combo of that and not making the other team go anything close to OFER is a delightful recipe for a blowout L.. & in the games Iowa dropped this year we saw a good bit of this.. Iowa guards couldn’t score on anyone and couldn’t stop anyone for scoring.. Please Address this ASAP Franny!

Assists and turnovers are meaningless stats? Seriously?
Of course not Fran, but the POINT is if we have a senior laden experienced team, and the NPOY and we finish 3rd in the league, get bounced after one game in the BIG, and really get bounced after ONE win against a 15 seed in the NCAA, then what does it matter? We simply could NOT get it done, (not even close) once again when it really mattered. What about the stat where Iowa has averaged losing by 15 points on average the last four second round games in the NCAA? It tells me were aLONG way off still......

It's a sign of having a Naismith award winner along with another borderline NBA player and a bunch of other guys who can't drive the ball to the bucket

Agreed that is a meaningless stat. The team is unselfish and generally protects the ball well. Fantastic. Taht isn't the only thing that matters in winning a game. Iowa had an elite offensive team, and a defense that was bad by Power 5 standards. And it cost them.
