Iowa is not doing better than "many Dem states" if you're reviewing cases or deaths past the first wave. They are one of the better Red states, but doing worse than nearly all the blue states.

They're practically in the middle, around #25 or #26

I guess the deaths in the first wave don't count...good to know

They BIAS the numbers against areas that were hit BEFORE any real mitigations and treatments were available. Quite different for areas that DO know how to treat patients based on the failures early on.
