From various reports:

Iowa wants to wipe away all the negativity that has been circulating social media over the past few weeks. Luka Garza told the media on Tuesday that the team has officially decided to shut down Twitter for the remainder of the season.

Garza: "I wasn't on Twitter too much anyway. It's not a big effect on my life. I think it was smart to avoid reading all the stuff and hearing everything everyone is saying. Negative or good."

"[The outside noise] isn't helping. It's just out there as a distraction. Nothing positive comes from it especially when we are playing not as well as we are capable of. It's nothing positive you can draw out of it."

Twitter is a toxic place. It's a cesspool of constant negativity when things go bad especially when things go from bad to worse.

The idea of deleting Twitter was brought up by the Iowa coaches two games ago and the team bought into the idea. Iowa has now lost five of their last six games and when you combine that with Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery's suspension and Gary Dolphins incidents-- you get one of the most negative environments on the internet.

The time to play the best basketball is now, so we'll see if the Hawkeyes can remember who they were when they were sitting at 20-5 (9-5 in B1G).

Agree with main points as if you use it for good you need to accept the bad.

I think people think it’s crazy and really thought it was crazy that Coach Ferentz doesn’t allow it for these main reasons the good and the bad.

They didn’t mind having twitter and reaping the praise after the good wins/game winners.
However the way some people attack college kids is disgusting.
I saw one incident where Connor congratulated Patrick for something on Twitter. Someone said something negative in response and then Connor came back at the person.

Kirk Ferentz is a genius for banning his players on Twitter.

Twitter is toxic and is a huge distraction.

I love technology, but loathe most social media platforms.

I see Twitter's negatives significantly outweighing its positives.

So my "old man shakes fist and yells at kids to get off his lawn" viewpoint on this is that it should have been done long ago.

Maybe getting a little thick skinned and showing some toughness would’ve a good idea. I get it that Twitter can get ugly well then don’t use it and why do you feel the need to talk about it? Don’t lose a game you are ahead by 16 with 10 minutes left. Jesus get them crying towels. Buck up and show some mental toughness.

Been our issue under Fran for years. Well, one of them.

Nobody likes to be critisized and the NBA commissioner said a a lot of NBA players are depressed because of twitter and facebook insults directed at the them.
It may seem like fun to those who boost their egos by tearing down others, so Fran is wise to advise his players to ignore these posts. I see a lot of negativity directed at Fran's son Conner, who adds a lot with his distributing the ball and controlling the tempo, plus he has to listen to negativity directed at his Dad
