Football- Left for dead by everyone including our own fans. Go on to win back EVERY traveling trophy (3 on the road) and the west division. Inches away from winning Big 10 title and get a Rose Bowl berth. Media HATED us in that position.

Basketball- Left for dead by the media and most fans thought at best we would be looking at a 5th place finish in the Big 10. Some magazines I saw us picked as low as 10th in the league. Now we could be looking at a #1 or #2 seed and playing in Des Moines. DSM FINALLY gets to host it and ISU (who everyone thought was a potential final 4 team....still could be I guess) cant play there due to hosting the event. Meanwhile they get to watch Iowa fill that arena as a possible #1 seed.

I know...a lot to play out still but it is pretty funny and ironic how things play out sometimes.

i've got my tickets to the NCAA tournament...going to be exciting to see Iowa, and possibly a KU/Duke Round of 32 matchup in Des Moines.

Iowa athletics are having a dream season 12-2 football season and Rose Bowl berth. The wrestlers are doing what they do. The basketball team has came out of nowhere, much like the football team, to have a fantastic season so far. Just for kicks I decided to see when, if ever, ISU had a run anywhere close to this. It appears that the glory days for ISU were during 2000/2001. ISU Football finished 9-3 and won its first ever bowl game over Pitt in the Insight.com Bowl and ISU Basketball finished 25-6, won the Big 12 regular season championship, lost in the first round of both the Big 12 and NCAA tourney.

I was a little more optimistic and bought tix to the regional final in Chicago.

Nice, I'll just stay home and host my annual 3 day kegger, favorite time of year. But what an opportunity to see Iowa in DSM, wow.
i live in des moines area, and every bitched and moaned about how we don't get the NCAA tournament...so now that we have it, we have to show we can do it again...buying tickets does it.

Just happy it turned out that Iowa might end up playing here...but still, to be a part of the NCAA tournament for a first time city like Des Moines...gotta show they made the right choice.

Saying most fans thought we would be bad or just middle of the pack isn't entirely true. Having 4 senior starters and a junior, I know I had to scratch my head at all the disrespect from all the media pundits. But I'd be lying if I thought Iowa would pull almost a clean sweep of the B1G schedule, which is what I see happeneing.

Agree i'm in the area as well but with everything tied up, don't want to pay a fortune even though it is awesome. We will show very well and I think Des Moines will be in the regular rotation going forward.

Just enjoying this ''dream'' 15 month run by the Hawks. All the suffering has finally paid off. Please finish out a strong semester in bb,wrestling, and baseball,Hawks! and then keep it going in fb next year and I can die happy.

What's the specific venue in DSM that is hosting?

And by the way, does anybody else hate the new Rivals schedule format as much as I do? It sucks.

YES! I go to ESPN if I want to look at the schedule and stats. The Yahoo display for schedule/stats is atrocious. Thankfully the football depth chart hasn't been moved to the Yahoo system, but I'm sure it will be moved soon.

Not wanting to be 'Debbie Downer' here, but the timing of Des Moines hosting the NCAA mens tourney could have been better. Not sure how many on this board work in downtown Des Moines, but it looks like most of the area is boarded off, demolition crews in action, and otherwise under construction. The skywalk system is a train wreck with the main link from the center of downtown to WF Arena cut off. Don't get me wrong, when all of this construction is finished, downtown will be so much better than it was twelve months ago. Unfortunate that the city hit the lottery in winning the first two rounds of the dance whilst in the middle of a major overhaul.

Crap, I didn't know tickets were already for sale. Any suggestions on the best way to do it?
