ISU is 15 points down with 3:30 to go in the game. I'm guessing Iowa State won't play like this when they play Iowa.
She's not Caitlin Clark, but is loads of fun to watch all the same. Kind of cool that she, Clark and Drake's Dinnebier were all in the Des Moines high school scene at the same time.McDermott just having one of those nights. 37 points.
No pun intended on the heavy?!? 😉I don’t think Iowa State’s guard court is strong enough… I’m not saying there were over ranked. I believe they have a very good team with an above average (not great) coach, that is front court heavy!
I was there. Pure shooter all night —3’s, off balance midrange, lay-ups. 12 3s, annd heated up right when counted. ISU lost it in third, out scored 11-23. Stat-wise, didn’t look horrible for ISU but seemed like lots of turnovers and missed shots. UNI scrappy and tough at home. Both will be “fun” for Iowa…McDermott just having one of those nights. 37 points.

I noticed the same thing about her size, and just don’t see how a girl that big’s knees can take the constant up-and-down the court and overall physicalness required in basketball.Crooks is even larger than last season.
She's bigger than anyone on the Hawk football team.
Fortunate that ISU plays in the dogshit Big 12.
They're going to win their conference, but they seem like a VERY unathletic team.

She's done far better than I thought she would, but at some point, that body has to start giving out. Joints just aren't built to handle that.Crooks is even larger than last season.

I saw the early line on that of ISU-10 and was wondering how it was so low. It crept up to like 13 or so before tip, but glad I stayed away from it.
Must not remember the extreme home cooking from the refs in Cedar Falls that happened on the regular. There's a reason that we don't go there anymore. I've never seen Iowa get that kind of home court advantage from the refs in CHA like we saw in the 2011 game.
K-state and Colorado might have something to say about that. Both really good teams.Crooks is even larger than last season.

Colorado is down this year. The top 5 in the Big 12 should be KSU, WVU, TCU, ISU, and Baylor, roughly in that order I predict.K-state and Colorado might have something to say about that. Both really good teams.
Fennelly can be such a bitter, lil bitch when he loses.
McDermott just having one of those nights. 37 points.
Probably, but he's not wrong. There's a reason Iowa doesn't play them and actually really the entire Missouri Valley. A lot of good teams there and you don't get much credit for beating them. The risk vs. reward is off.Fennelly can be such a bitter, lil bitch when he loses.
That's a bad look.
Would Bluder or JJ even day that, tho?Probably, but he's not wrong. There's a reason Iowa doesn't play them and actually really the entire Missouri Valley. A lot of good teams there and you don't get much credit for beating them. The risk vs. reward is off.
Of course they wouldn't say it. But that's completely the reason the men don't play those games anymore. He's just saying the quiet part out loud. The other coaches don't say it because it comes off exactly as you said it did.Would Bluder or JJ even day that, tho?
Every major college plays some smaller programs and the risk/reward is the same.
Been this way forever.
Fennelly has become KF with family hires and no one able to change his approach.
That game will be in Iowa City, so you may be right: ISU might play even worse.ISU is 15 points down with 3:30 to go in the game. I'm guessing Iowa State won't play like this when they play Iowa.
"Front court heavy." That's a clever way to put it. I like it.I don’t think Iowa State’s guard court is strong enough… I’m not saying they were over ranked. I believe they have a very good team with an above average (not great) coach, that is front court heavy!
That was a grand fiasco, for sure, but that was 13 years ago. It's ridiculous that Iowa's men do not play UNI and Drake every single season. It's absolutely embarrassing, IMHO. If the Hawkeyes must go to places like East Lansing and Bloomington, then why refuse to visit Des Moines and Cedar Falls? Beth needs to stop the foolishness and make sure the Iowa men play UNI and Drake every year, starting next season. Those in-state games are great for everyone and should not be ditched forever because of one ridiculous game.Must not remember the extreme home cooking from the refs in Cedar Falls that happened on the regular. The officials assigned to that game were Bo Borrowski, John Higgins, and Paul Janssen. At least 11 final fours from that crew. If you want to say they had it in for Fran or something -- I guess you can have that opinion, but that says more about Fran than a group that was universally thought of as three of the best available officials at that time. And Iowa lost that game by 20 points. Bad calls could cost a team a close game, but it was a blowout. That was a grand fiasco, for sure, but that was 13 years ago. What happened to that DM setup double header with all 4 teams? The officials assigned to that game were Bo Borrowski, John Higgins, and Paul Janssen. At least 11 final fours from that crew. And to use this as a reason not to play these games is silly. UNI and Drake would absolutely let the Big Ten and Big XII assign the officials on their home floors if that's what it took to play these games. Clearly that's not the reason, and it's become a convienient excuse for fans who don't want to risk losing to who they see as a little brother (and maybe now little sister).
Iowa and Iowa State chose not to renew that contract when it expired. What happened to that DM setup double header with all 4 teams?
Borowski is a terrible ref. Absolute joke and should be firedThe officials assigned to that game were Bo Borrowski, John Higgins, and Paul Janssen. At least 11 final fours from that crew. After working three final fours in a row, he retired in 2022 and now CEO of RefQuest (scheduling software).Borowski is a terrible ref. Absolute joke and should be fired

If you don't like him, that's fine. But objectively he was one of the best officials in the game when he was working as judged by neutral observers and the coaches (maybe not Fran) who regularly wanted him to work their games.
Big name officials are often polarizing. But you don't work three final fours in a row without being an objectively good basketball official.Never been one to blame officiating in any sport (and man is it awful in the WNBA) but many, many didn’t like Bo
I've seen him ref multiple games and was the worst official I've seen.Big name officials are often polarizing. But you don't work three final fours in a row without being an objectively good basketball official.
