The Big Ten held its 2nd annual Volleyball Media Days earlier this week, and I had a chance to chat with Head Coach Jim Barnes as well as seniors Bailey Ortega and Delaney McSweeney. Iowa put together its best season since 2016 and the team is looking to continue that growth heading into Coach Barnes' second season. "Last year, we played to the end through every match and we had chances, and we got it done in our last two matches of five-setters. The game teaches the game better than coaches do...so I think we've really accelerated our learning in two short years," Barnes said Wednesday.

The Hawkeyes pushed #14 Penn State and #5 Purdue to five sets last season before pulling out five-set wins over Michigan State and Michigan to close the year. This year, the Hawks will be on national television four times as they look to continue to build the foundation for consistent success.

The volleyball season is fast approaching, with the Hawks opening the season as part of the Sacramento State Invitational, a four-team tournament that includes Cal Poly, Sacramento State, Nevada, and the Hawks. They'll open the season on August 25th against Cal Poly, before matches on August 26th (Sacramento State) and 27th (Nevada).
