After opening the season with back to back losses at home, Colorado State Rams went into Toledo and pulls off the upset, after the Rockets nearly upset Notre Dame in South Bend in Week 2.

What’s next for CSU?

Make no mistake, this is a great win for CSU. A much-needed shot of positivity after two terrible weeks to open the season.

What will happen now? CSU is almost sure to lose at Iowa next week and there’s nothing wrong with that.

The question is what follows. Can CSU use this as a springboard toward further success this season? Or will it be a false dawn like the 2018 win over Arkansas?

Within the win, there were still concerns. It will be hard to win with a passing game like Saturday’s performance. Winning without an offensive touchdown likely won't happen again.

The clock and timeout management was suspect at best. CSU is banged up (Toby McBride, Henry Blackburn and Barry Wesley all left the game hurt).

It’s a result that will launch CSU out of any “Bottom 10” type of rankings but it’s too soon to say if it will lead to more sustained success.

By the way, Iowa opens 2022 against that same South Dakota State team at Kinnick Stadium.

Iowa is favored by 22 points against Colorado State. Back in 2017, Iowa faced Boston College in the Pinstripe Bowl. Last time, Kirk Ferentz and the Hawkeyes faced a Steve Addazio coached team. Several of Addazio's assistants have ties to the Big Ten.

The Iowa vs. Colorado State game will air on FS1. Look who will be on the call.

Iowa and Penn State will square off in the second week of October.

There is a first for everything: Iowa vs. Colorado State at Kinnick.
