I wouldn't want my team shaking hands with a team that just came off a Covid pause. I don't know if that was the reasoning, but if it was, I understand completely.Dang that was cold, they didn't shake hands

Other than Clark, the other Three point shooters didn’t take many! I’m going to credit Duke’s defense for that.Really ugly for Iowa. No offensive threat from 3 tonight is a killer. Can’t miss them all in a women's game.
They kind of are what they are. At their best, Hawkeye women's team moves the ball really well on offense with one great scorer and some other nice complementary pieces that can score a lot of points. Really obvious they haven't been able to practice the last 2 weeks. Their improvement on defense is limited to a certain extent. They just aren't going to be real good rebounding or on defense with the current roster. They will still have a very good season more than likely, but people may need to temper expectations a bit.Iowa just isn't athletic enough around the basket. They get outmaneuvered on rebounds. This team will struggle against a lot of good athletic teams. Sucked watching how much slower they are at reacting to the basket compared to Duke.
So BAU for the Iowa women........They kind of are what they are. Clark going 9-27 is not efficient at all for a "great scorer", which she is. That is a problem with high volume shooters. Two great scorers.
Clark - 21 ppg
Czinano - 17 ppg
Yeah last year she was incredible, making nearly 41% of her 3-pointers with a huge volume of 3's (116 for 286). That is really, really good for a player who takes 9 3 pointers a game. So far this year just 25% on about same amount of 3's per game. Seems due to regression to her true ability soon.Clark going 9-27 is not efficient at all for a "great scorer", which she is. I'm not really sure the game plan wasn't sound. Bluder has coached in a zillion games and her teams are prepared. Last night no exception. Difference was that they practiced all of 2 times in the last 2 weeks due to COVID, and her star player did not play like a star last night. Yes, it would be better if Clark did not shoot from 30 feet with 25 seconds on the shot clock, with no one in position to rebound and not having made Duke's defense do anything except rebound the ball. Iowa appeared to try to adjust and drive the ball as the first half went on, but they missed a lot of layups and turned it over a ton.I blame this on the game plan and lack of in-game adjustments from the coaching staff. Clark will continue to shoot unless she is told not to. Given how things went in the first half, we needed something different out of her in the second -- more driving and facilitating -- she was 8-14 from 2 btw. Maybe she was told otherwise but didn't execute, in which case, too much reverting to old habits. Either way, we will learn and grow from this.
I think Clark's shot selection will make a big difference in how good she is both in her college career and at the next level. If she doesn't improve it, I fear she won't be nearly as good as she could be.I'm not really sure the game plan wasn't sound. Bluder has coached in a zillion games and her teams are prepared. I'm not sure Bluder will ever, or should ever, tell Clark not to shoot. When you have a great player, you kind of have to give them the freedom to take shots that they think they can make.
My concern is that by my eye test, I think she is taking more "bad" threes this year compared to last. To me, a good Clark 3 is one where she's relatively close to the three-point line and/or where she is at least somewhat set on the shot (including step-backs where she gets set by the end). A bad one is where she is off balance and shooting from far away.Yeah last year she was incredible, making nearly 41% of her 3-pointers with a huge volume of 3's (116 for 286). I would agree largely. Was not able to see every game last year, but last night she shot a huge amount of 3's from way, way out while being guarded. Shots that she can literally get with 30 seconds on the shot clock or 1. The team's strength is that they can pass and share the ball and spread a team out. They made it easy on Duke last night with 1 pass and a shot or no passes and a shot.My concern is that by my eye test, I think she is taking more "bad" threes this year compared to last. Just as an example, if Clark took an equal number of "good" and "bad" threes last year, and shot 50% on the "good" threes and 30% on the "bad" threes, her shooting percentage would be 40%. This year, though, if she's shooting more "bad" threes than "good" ones, we would expect her percentage to be lower, and regression to the mean would be something under 40%.
That's why I'm spending so much time talking about shot selection. We shouldn't expect Clark to shoot 41% on every type of 3 she takes.
I meant it very tongue in cheekI wouldn't want my team shaking hands with a team that just came off a Covid pause. I don't know if that was the reasoning, but if it was, I understand completely.
sophomore slumpHer three has been off all year it seems. Last year you saw nothing but net most the time.
