OK, several points to make about all of this crap:
First, for Nashville. All Hawk fans and their opinions should matter, no matter where they live or are from. We're all entitled to our opinions, wrong, right, or gray area.
Second, I HATE what VT did to those guys. It was wrong, it sucked! That horse has been dead for a long time, we should stop beating it, and get it buried. I (even as a good Christian who should know better) will never forgive that school for the whole fiasco, but it is hurting Iowa's image with the rest of the country, and that is bad enough already.
Last year there was an argument (and a good one) that we should be facing NC State and not VT anyway. This year it's obvious that we didn't want to go there and the (stupid) NWCA penalized us and made us go sit in the corner to make us irrelevant. This whole joke of a format needs to go away yesterday, if not sooner. the one thing that I'm glad about is this matchup gives us an opportunity to sit some guys nursing injuries and maybe be healthier for the B1G Tourney. I'm not saying Edinboro are patsies, but we should have some wiggle room in that match-up.
All that being said, if we are refusing to wrestle VT, Tom should publically announce it and give his explanation to the world. I'm sure he would take some flak, but many people would understand and respect it, whether they agreed with it or not. Kevin Dresser was one of my favorite Hawkeyes on the '86 team which, arguably might have been our best team ever, performance-wise, but I lost all respect for him with all his bull last year and making such an a$$ of himself. I would love to see us kick VT's rear, but I understand why we wouldn't put money in their pockets.
I miss the Natty Duals format that was used in Cedar Falls. I understand the timing was wrong for a National Championship, and I know it was a lot of wear and tear on the wrestlers, but it was a great format, and it allowed true wrestling fans to see DII, DIII, etc. I enjoyed watching Wartburg, Coe, Pitt-Johnstown and many other teams compete. I will never travel out of the state of Iowa to watch this current format.
