Iowa vs Edinboro

And I think there are thousands of fans like myself who don't give a rats ass about the pissing contest...we just want to see 10 pissed off wrestlers go to VA Tech and beat them down. So please...you speak for YOURSELF...
I am sure there are thousands that would love to see us against Vag Tech. The majority not following wrestling close enough to know why others don't want it. The people I talk to that actually attend the meets all hope we don't wrestle them. Just like anything else. there will be people on both sides. I think the strong majority of Iowa fans familiar with the situation are smiling ear to ear knowing that Dresser won't sleep all week due to raging against Iowa.

You know, I really would like to give you the benefit of the doubt ,and I concur regarding the Dresser situation, and all the issues surrounding the Brands move to Iowa and how wrestlers were affected and so on. However for you to say that the thousands of us who happened to move out of Iowa no longer matter to Iowa wrestling and are uniformed because we can't attend wrestling meets is pure bulls**t. I spent 24 years in the military traveling to the ends of the earth, and retired in Nashville to be close to my wife's family. So no, I haven't been one of those people who "actually attend the meets." But please don't think those of us who have lives outside of Iowa aren't real fans. That sounds like some pretentious shit I hear from idiots I have to deal with from time to time, and it pisses me off that it came from someone who should know better. So please argue the points, but don't ever make it about whether or not we live in Iowa and attend the meets. If Iowa wrestling was only about the people who live in Iowa and attend the meets, the program would be dead...just ask one of your educated buddies who "actually attends the meets."

Please back away or read better. I said the ones that actually attend the meet that I talk to. I didn't say anything negative about those that I don't talk to or don't attend the meets. I merely stated I have not spoken to one person who wants us to go there. I do think its fair saying people that go to the meets might have a little better pulse on the program. Anyone who gets offended by that is just looking to get angry. I love knowing there are Hawkeye fans all across the country. Some are good donors to the HWC.

Forgive me if I misinterpreted your meaning (and no, I'm not "just looking to get angry"). And I do agree that attending the meets could give a person a better pulse on the program, though the playing fields have evened up a bit with the amount of socials media available at our fingertips. I'm a die hard Iowa wrestling fan...have been since my family moved to Iowa a few years before Gary Kurdelmeier took over the reigns in the early 70s, and like many of the Iowa fans I know, I want to see the best competition possible. If not VT, I want NC State or Cornell...someone who presents a team-level challenge. And as others have also said, if we're not going to do it right, then let's not do it at all. Thanks for clarifying your position.

OK, several points to make about all of this crap:

First, for Nashville. All Hawk fans and their opinions should matter, no matter where they live or are from. We're all entitled to our opinions, wrong, right, or gray area.

Second, I HATE what VT did to those guys. It was wrong, it sucked! That horse has been dead for a long time, we should stop beating it, and get it buried. I (even as a good Christian who should know better) will never forgive that school for the whole fiasco, but it is hurting Iowa's image with the rest of the country, and that is bad enough already.
Last year there was an argument (and a good one) that we should be facing NC State and not VT anyway. This year it's obvious that we didn't want to go there and the (stupid) NWCA penalized us and made us go sit in the corner to make us irrelevant. This whole joke of a format needs to go away yesterday, if not sooner. the one thing that I'm glad about is this matchup gives us an opportunity to sit some guys nursing injuries and maybe be healthier for the B1G Tourney. I'm not saying Edinboro are patsies, but we should have some wiggle room in that match-up.

All that being said, if we are refusing to wrestle VT, Tom should publically announce it and give his explanation to the world. I'm sure he would take some flak, but many people would understand and respect it, whether they agreed with it or not. Kevin Dresser was one of my favorite Hawkeyes on the '86 team which, arguably might have been our best team ever, performance-wise, but I lost all respect for him with all his bull last year and making such an a$$ of himself. I would love to see us kick VT's rear, but I understand why we wouldn't put money in their pockets.

I miss the Natty Duals format that was used in Cedar Falls. I understand the timing was wrong for a National Championship, and I know it was a lot of wear and tear on the wrestlers, but it was a great format, and it allowed true wrestling fans to see DII, DIII, etc. I enjoyed watching Wartburg, Coe, Pitt-Johnstown and many other teams compete. I will never travel out of the state of Iowa to watch this current format.

A man is only as good as his word. If he promised to never duel VT then so be it.

I usually want to see Cornell. They are a style mismatch that we need to see before nationals to help us work stuff out. Glad we did not get them this year. Dean hurt Brooks 2 years ago and he wasn't the same after.

It will be good to see Cliffy.

Nashville, thank you for your service.

I'd say do away with them or have them earlier. Iowa doesn't have anything left to prove in dual meets, just in tournaments as individuals (and tournament team). It could be worse, it could be the week of (day before) individual tournament like Iowa High School, but there isn't much of a point outside of #1 vs #2 which tends to happen throughtout the year anyways.

Either participate in the format as it was intended or don't do it at all. This would have been a good chance to get looks at guys that could surprise us like Dance.

With that said, what a stupid format that the higher ranked team has to go on the road.

Any chance the lineup was penciled out before this weekend with it being as is except IA vs UNI or Mizzou (with either being a nice matchup but the presumption of Mizzou winning the dual)? If so, the NWCA could have let all the other schools know and they started making travel plans. Then UNI wins and says thanks, but no thanks and the scramble down the line to get IA a matchup.

This would make a lot of sense as JB is on record saying Brands did not tell Vag Tech to fly a kite.

Not going to happen. Dodging VT will not be received well by Pa. I can't see Iowa picking up a single fan, but may have lost the respect of thousands.

So how has PSU football maintained a single fan if this is the logic? It can be argued that iowa/Edinboro is better to grow the sport than VT/Iowa. Iowa/Edinbiro is the only national dual matchup on Saturday and the entire college wrestling world will be tuned in to it as well as edinboro being able to fill up their 3500 seat gym. Plus the Saturday night dual makes travel much easier without messing with any class schedules. Neb/VT is Sunday night 7pm which is just dumb.

Swing and a miss.

Identify the miss part, would you? I don't see it.

Thank you for pointing that out. 1. The football team did nothing wrong and are defending big 10 champions 2 if you really think Edinboro a better match up... yeah right 2 Would this be the first time kids miss a class due to a dual? Hey in baseball three strikes woo hoo.

I never said it was a better matchup. For iowa it is not. But for edinboro do you think they and their fans would rather see iowa or Indiana/Purdue? They will draw 3-4x the fans vs iowa so for edinboro this is the best matchup they could have gotten to fill their gym. Isn't that the whole purpose of growing the sport in putting more butts in the seats?

Oh I'm sorry, I forgot Friday is the beginning of PA State tournament. Very few people interested in your match lol...

how would you know you are not a wrestling fan, you are internet fan, sad life

Edinboro wrestling Iowa has to help the Boro with recruiting I would think. "Hey look we brought 2 top 5 teams into our gym this year!".

Sir, if I agree to do something I do it. I care not of history, I heard both sides of the story and have no opinion. Brands agreed to the policy and reneged. You can call me names, curse, ignore the truth, whatever. Not sure what part of PA is ok with this, glad it is not where I live.
Consider it done.
