I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that if we can hold opponents to 21% shooting, we're going to win a lot of games.

Nice to see a game in person again.
Don't think I've seen Iowa so consistently under Fran pick up their man several feet beyond the 3 point line.
There's going to be people questioning Bohannon's motivation for coming back this year, but he was out there busting it trying to guard people several feet behind the line. Obviously, I wouldn't anticipate everybody on our team to guard like that all year. It'd be blow by city for Bohannon if we tried that. But you can't tell me he came back for the wrong reasons after this game at least. The defensive mentality was there for our guys all game.
I was very pleasantly surprised about Fran sticking with man defense today. I figured he'd want to test out our zone defense for some stretches. We only ran zone 3 times total all on out of bounds underneath plays like we normally do. I'm going to be harping all year about sticking with the man defense that helped Iowa defensively last year.
I was pleasantly surprised by some guys defensively. Competition was weak obviously, but I thought Sandfort was better on D than I thought he'd be.
I'd probably say that Iowa played 1/3 of the game without one of our centers. Neither Ogundele or Mulvey were one of the first 5 subs off the bench. Fran seemed to consistently downplay expectations for those two in preseason, so I'd anticipate those guys will be situational in B1G play.
I try not to read too much into any shooting numbers until a few games have passed. From watching shootaround, I think Perkins has made really good progress on his form. It's much better than I remember from last year.
Only other thing I'll add is I thought Joe T had better footwork and didn't travel unnecessarily in some spots where he would've last year. Hopefully, a sign that things might be slowing down.
How do we combat the size we’ll see in the B1G? Is playing Keegan at the 5 the best use of his talent?go up a couple posts and watch the 6 minute postgame video
sounds like Fran does not plan on playing josh or riley much once games get tougher
I thought Rebraca was going to handle that role more often than not?How do we combat the size we’ll see in the B1G? Is playing Keegan at the 5 the best use of his talent?

Yeah he did, but he’s not really big. He’s not much bigger than Pat Mac.I thought Rebraca was going to handle that role more often than not?
IMO those games are going to see more of Josh and Mulvey. They'll be needed for fouls if nothing else. Josh has the beef and Mulvey looked bigger than I thought he would. Help defense from Keegan and others will be key in those situations as well.it looks/sounds like Fran is comfortable right now with PMac, Keegan & Filip as our front line
i think we are going to be in trouble once B1G play begins; all we have to look at is Michigan's, Purdue's and Illinois' center

Nice, I had much the same impressions. I really liked the first team. JBO's defense looked alright and the front line looks really good.I was at the game and give you my thoughts.
* I like the first unit a lot and they looked really good throughout (yes, I know competition was weak). But they are going to cay se issues defensively for teams, especially Keegan, Patrick, and Touissant. Even JBo’s defense was better it seemed. The press looked good with this unit.
* Patrick looked really confident and improved all around, as did Keegan. Both looked confident with the ball, they both looked strong rebounding, and played great Defense (Patrick didn’t get lost like he has in the past some).
* Touissant looked solid. Under control and his little 10 ft jumper looked nice. Still doesn’t seem confident out to 3.
* JBo knew he didn’t have to force anything and didn”t. I think Fran’s right to start him with this group to give them one solid threat from behind the arc. If Perkins was out there instead of JBo, not sure where the consistent 3 pt threat comes from?
* Not sure exactly how good Rebraca will be but he definitely is the most consistent and refined of the big men. I think he will complement Keegan and Patrick nicely.
* The 2nd unit really struggled in the first half - which Fran said they were obviously nervous - and why he started them in the 2nd Half, where they settled in and looked a lot better.
* Sandfort will play if only because he can really shoot. With Perkins, Ullis, and Kris, he will be needed to stretch the floor.
* I like the athleticism and potential of Perkins, Ullis, and Kris but I’m not positive they are ready for starter minutes. They play hard and will be valuable in rotation and hopefully will keep improving and become more consistent.
* Connor was Connor. One intangible he brings with the 2nd unit is leadership and calming guys down. Even Sandfort said Connor calmed him down at half and helped him settle in for the 2nd Half.
* Big O and Mulvey look like 11th and 12th guys. I’m sure there are certain games and match-ups they will play more but I think the 4/5 spots will be manned by Keegan, Patrick, Rebraca, and Kris in tighter rotations (at least at this point). Hopefully, those two will continue to grow with more experience if only for the size they can bring.
* FT shooting was great.
* Defense overall was much more intense and it’s noticeable how long and athletic and bought in defensively this group is compared to last few years.
* I am worried where the consistent outside shooting will come from. Small sample size of course but JBo and Sandfort are only two that I feel great about at this point to be consistent from 3. I wonder if there will be certain games Ash plays more if they need a lift from 3 and teams daring them to shoot? That being said, this group seems to have the ability to deprive and get to hoop more than in years past.
Going into the season, I feel like this is a bubble team right now and nothing changed my mind.
