*****IOWA vs Truman State Game Thread*****

O'Grady has looked really good offensively. And I don't think it's just Truman State being a D-2 team. I'd be shocked if she isn't the backup 5 by December at the latest. And if she keeps this up, the coaches will need to think about how to get her on the floor with Czinano.

Is Truman state a bad D2 or is the gap that large between D1 and D2? Honest question.

BTW, I know we are good so that certainly plays a part.

Truman State went 17-5, 20-8, and 23-8 in its last 3 seasons and is apparently projected to win its conference this year. Not sure it is a great D2 team, but it's certainly not a bad one. Iowa is just a really good D1 team that can shoot the lights out.

Thanks! That's a pretty solid resume.

Ediger was playing the center position tonight instead of backing up Warnock, so she went in the game after Czinano, O'Grady and Cook. She actually played with Warnock for some minutes. Now I can see why she's playing 5. Her body type is closer to O'Grady and Czinano than Warnock.

Notes from the game:
Truman state missed a lot of shots in the first half, and Iowa was more aggressive on defense.

Monica was off the floor a lot, it seemed like a deliberate effort to try to get cook and OGrady some time.
Warnock looks a lot like last year, good overall game.
Martin stayed on the floor with the subs while Clark was out. Seemed like she was the acting as backup point.
Marshal looked good, same defense and 3 point shooting.
Clark looked good. Showed more interest in defense, especially in try to block shots. Those cross court passes and how quick she gets her shot off are more impressive in person.
Taiwo was first off the bench and is seems to be picking up where she left off.
Feuerbach looks really good, good court awareness, good defense, can score. If I was coaching she would be running the point when Caitlin is out,
Cook looks about the same as last year.
Ogrady looked better than advertised, she seems to have good hands and can catch the ball and finish at the rim in transition. Didn't see a huge range of post moves, but she is going to be good.
Affolter is aggressive, likes to draw contact in the lane.
Ediger was the last one in, and was maybe the least aggressive of the newcomers. She still scored shortly after getting in the game.

Overall, jury is still out on defense, although there were some flashes of improvement. The timing on some of the passes was a little off, but they still looked good. I think most of the newcomers see the court on a regular basis. They need some work on offensive flow when Clark is out of the game.

The crowd was kind of quiet, and spread out. So definitely nowhere near regular season intensity.

There was beer at the game.

Ice cream lines were long. Got in line before the end of the 1st have, 2nd half had started before I made it through line.

Agree here with Braydon.....I was extremely impressed with O'Grady. You can just tell she's got game and for a true frosh and is tall. I mean 19 points and 6 rebounds in a freshman debut game only playing 12 minutes is impressive on any court. I also was very impressed with Kylie Feuerbach....again in my view, she's got game too, very smooth, very active and very athletic but also impressed with the final five on the floor during that last quarter. Sydney Affolter looked talented as well. That was fun to watch.....and they did not lose a beat in fact, picked on the D and O while they were in there....

Lisa has some talent behind Caitlin and Monica and the starting five and you could tell Caitlin was rooting on the supporting cast and was liking what she was seeing on the bench.....

The Hawkeyes looked great. Granted we weren't playing UCONN, but they played great. Addison O'Grady played great in her first appearance. Caitlin was awesome and this is going to be a really, really good year for the Iowa Women.

Yes, we have fantastic and athletic guard depth with Taiwo, Feuerbach, and Affolter. I hope Bluder finds a way for them all to contribute.

Yea gents, agree.......again, the guard depth off the bench is very impressive as any other Lisa team and does not dropped much after Caitlin which is saying a ton and compare this guard depth to the rest of the B1G?? This will be fun to find out....ps....Affolter for a big guard, has handles and pushes the ball up the court....like that.

AJ may not be quick enough right now to be anything other than a 5; however, I was really surprised by O’Grady. I hope it’s not just the competition and that she gets a lot of confidence from this game. Confidence can be fleeting, though. We will know more once the regular season starts.

Back to AJ - if she can follow Megan’s transformation after being in a collegiate level training program, I believe she’ll be a great player (not saying she’ll be Megan, just that her game will improve a lot).

This is pretty par for the course for a D1/D2 exhibition.
I obviously don't know what the first half looked like, but Iowa's 2-3 zone defense has looked terrible in the early 3rd.
Oh god did it [the zone during those few minutes] ever look bad. Dreaming of a day when our close outs don't make me wince.

Cook looked much improved over last year. Cook is not going to put up huge numbers, so you really have to pay close attention. She doesn't really look to score. Instead, she does the little things and provides energy off the bench. She was very active on the glass and made some nice post feed passes. Also, she is very active setting screens. Her defense is a little improved but still needs work but that's true of all of Iowa's post players. But her offense is fine as she's always been very good close to the basket. She has outstanding court awareness and does the little things that benefit the team rather than her own stats. It will be hard for her to get minutes as She's really an undersized 5 instead of a 4 but still I expect her to see a few more minutes than last year, just with her experience. She'll show up more in the stats once the real season begins, especially with her rebounding.

For all that experienced the BTN+ issues tonight: I have subscribed to BTN+ during the winter sports season ever since they’ve been in existence. There hasn’t been ONE SINGLE season since their start that I haven’t experienced a SERIOUS problem! Most important to me is having the ability to contact a company when experiencing a problem - why can’t BTN do this? When you live well outside of Iowa and games aren’t available w/o a subscription to your service, why are you so F***ed up?!?!

I predict Feuerbach will eventually play equal minutes to both Martin and Gabbie. Very impressed with her overall game.

Yeah, I am gonna tap the brakes a little based on who we played. Let's see what the D looks like vs Maryland, Iowa State, Michigan, etc.

This team has the potential for at least an Elite 8 appearance. But, we have already been hit with the injury bug and you never know what will happen during the course of a season.

And I remember during the season people trying to compare last year's men's team to the all time great Iowa teams. And what did they do? Blown out in the 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament. So much for that!

And I remember just a few weeks ago people trying to compare this year's football team to the 2015, 12-0 team. Most said that this year's teams is better than the 2015 team. Well, now we've lost 2 games in a row. So much for that!

I only subscribed to BTN+ for the month of December for a handful of events. I expect to be able to watch those events when they are played. I figure they owe me at least a buck-fifty!

And there had better not be a repeat of this BS tomorrow night. They have been selling this service for a long time. They should be able to get it right by now.

Is there a more maddening term than "technical difficulties"? The term implies a problem that is easily resolved. Damn, my car wont start..... ooops, haha I forgot to put in in Park. Something like that. When I see this message I always imagine that a low level assistant accidently tripped over and unplugged a cable or something.

Yeah, it may be a technical on your end but it is a catasrophe to the subscriber.

No sugarcoating it, Truman State is really bad. Even though it's just an exhibition game, don't know any value at all in scheduling a team like this. I'm sure there are many high school teams that are better.

They need to schedule all-iowa attack. Current team vs recruits...

No, there are probably not really any HS teams in the close geography better the TS. Again ....close by. Did you watch the game? TS played hard and were very active, pretty physical and shot better in the 2nd half. That's the part of the game I saw anyway.

I think Iowa is just that good like others have said.... Of course, the talent will be better moving forward but I can never understand why folks get worked up over games like this so early in the season.....it's basketball and players will play anytime and anywhere. And I can watch the game really anywhere and at anytime.....give me shirts and skins and I am good to go. Of course shirts and skins ....men...:)

The BTN+ issues are just maddening this year. I have been subscribing for the Nov/Dec games as long as they've been in existence. It used to be the picture quality that suffered but it gradually, over the years, it got better. In all the years I've subscribed, they've had a few games that they joined in progress, but usually in the first minute or so. They have never missed an entire first half of a game. If they are going to continue sticking Iowa games on this product and take payment for them, they have a professional responsibility to get it right.
