With Mizzou just getting beat down by UNI, VT seems like the most logical match. It would definitely have some fireworks with some good matchups and Oranges thing from last year.

Is this the likely scenario at this point? I would love it because I am working in Blacksburg right now! Please say it is so!

Brands won't go to VT and everyone in college wrestling knows it, won't happen. Unless he says to himself well F it.

Time for Brands to suck it up. Since when have we ducked anyone?

This has NOTHING to do with ducking anyone. If Brands says "No" out of principle I am 100% behind him.
That University robbed 4 kids of 25% of their college career.
I'm totally fine with going down Virginia Tech as soon as they give Metcalf, Borschal, LeClere, Slaton that year back.

Exactly!!!,..... While VT was screwing them the only thing Tom could say is "You're dead to me Fredo, you're nothing to me now"

There was a quote from this board the other day along the lines of "use fire sparingly when crossing bridges". I see this manifest itself in places that I have worked. I am constantly amazed by people who behave poorly in the workplace for an organization but still expect benefits from the organization.

When Tom left come back to Iowa and the wrestlers followed him and Virginia Tech refused to release the wrestlers, costing them a year of eligibility two things were clear.

1) Brands would never coach at Virginia Tech again and should not expect any benefits from Virginia Tech allies in the sport.

2) Virginia Tech should never expect any benefits from Tom Brands or his allies in the sport.

What I find the most unusual about the whole situation is that organizations typically have to be the "bigger person". They have more to lose by coming across petty or vindictive. I might have expected coaches who were recruiting against Virginia Tech to use this as negative recruiting i.e. "they'll hold you hostage if you try to leave". Look at Minnesota did this year, they come across as looking benevolent when they gave the immediate release to wrestlers came in as high recruits.

Now, I'll don't think Virginia Tech has suffered very much with recruiting but I certainly don't want the University of Iowa helping Virginia Tech wrestling in the scheduling department.

At least for the next 25 years, they can revisit it then.

as long as that crybaby dresser is at va.tech i would never and i mean EVER give into him. he picked his battle and now has to deal with it. too bad for you dumb ass. stings like a bitch doesn't. those 4 wrestlers didn't come to va. tech because of you, they came because of coach brands. get over yourself dresser. iowa owes you nothing. you on the other hand you owe iowa everything.

From an outsiders perspective if this match don't happen when it obviously should, I want Brands to stand up and say it out in public.

"No we not wrestling these guys. This school affected me and a bunch of good kids years ago and took away a year of their dreams. I will never help VaTech in any way, shape or form now or while I'm at the head of the program."

As a non Iowa fan, I can appreciate a statement like that and him standing by his principles. That being said I dont want to hear some BS of how really NC State was voted #2 If that happens it makes Iowa and Brands look like ducks

Get in front of it, be honest and no one can say squat

You mean if this match "doesn't" happen. How would that make anything different? Everyone, including you, already knows the situation. Doesn't sound like your's is strictly an outsiders perspective, however.

Brands is more of an ambassador than a diplomat.

Probably cost him a fourth title. Iowa finished 41 points behind Minne. I'm guessing Metcalf himself accounts for 20. I would like for it to happen because of the past history but have no problem with a grudge being held.

Let it be said in public. I know cause I'm like the rest of you. We watch every wrestling event we can and try to gobble up as much knowledge as possible. The average fan (the ones not on message boards, no Flo only have have regular B10 network without the plus), they have NO clue why a big match don't happen.

Make it a story. And it happens to be true. I will NOT help this school because they screwed good kids. Very simple and relatable to everyone to understand. Otherwise you sit silent and say nothing and let Dresser lead the story about being oranges.

If Dresser did that crap to my son, I'd be livid

Okay, this is the deal. If iowa goes to Blacksburg they will sell a lot more tickets. This will help fVT and there is no way Brands or Iowa should help their wrestling program. End of story. You do not burn bridges and IMO it's a done deal and I am sure the NWCA knows that. And furthermore Brands does not have to explain shit to anybody. I cannot remember fVT ever explaining themselves.

How pissed off would you be if ISU did that to David Taylor back in the day? What if it had been four or five of your guys? Would you demand Cael give an explanation of himself? Everybody who knew Tom Brands knew that Iowa was his dream job. It came open, he took it and Vag Tech petulantly screwed a bunch of kids for it.

Dresser has done a great job there at Vag Tech...no doubt about it. But Dresser had a hand in this when he should have pulled a KJ and told the AD, "Hey bro, don't want to keep guys that don't want to be here."

I would still like to see Iowa at Missouri to see Mayes/Sorenson and Kemmerer/Lavallee. I think the Hawks are favored in both matches but I would still like to see how things go here.

It's close, makes sense and it will play to a packed house.

I agree 100%. I love the thought of giving people what they want & then burning the house down. I think we'd do that this year & why I would be for it. But if they choose not to, they certainly have every reason to make that decision.

Somebody else can clarify this better - but I believe the four wrestlers that were screwed out of a year of eligibility were promised by the AD before they signed to go to VT that they would be able to transfer to Iowa with no penalty if Brands got the head job at Iowa. Then when Brands got the job, the AD stabbed them in the back and took a year from them. That is why Brands does not want to do anything to help out Vag Tech.

It isn't merely that they took a year from them when they could have granted them a release. They took a year from them after they specifically promised the kids and their parents that they wouldn't.

Well then maybe Mizzou should have TCB against UNI.

They probably won't be invited to the party now...and even if they are they won't draw Iowa.

If the Hawks don't go to Vag Tech, I sure hope Dresser has another meltdown.
If they are forced to go why not take subs at every weight? Even if they would win, PS goes to the Championship I think, so this is a waste of time????
