Sorry, I've read all of the justifications on here, and from where I sit, this action by Brands is cowardly, and it's ducking, plain and simple. I can certainly appreciate why Brands and the fans were mad. But if you're still mad, man up, go down there, and kick their butts. How many years is this squabble going to last? At some point, don't you need to say this is being juvenile?
You joined a week ago presumably after getting banned. Why don't you complain about Iowa on your Penn State forum?

It was my understanding (and I am a new poster so I could be wrong) that Sanderson opted out of the National Duals at the beginning of the season. He didn't wait, see his opponent, and then back out. If that is true, it is not comparable to waiting, see who you're paired with, and then not accepting the match. If he did back out after a PS opponent was announced, that would be different.
I've tried to be fair in my comments, and if the board feels I need to be banned, so be it. I was not banned before.
Sanderson was one of, if not the most adamant detractor, of having the national duals count towards scoring in March. He was one of the leading forces in making this event completely irrelevant, which is the reason Iowa will not wrestle Virginia Tech. They don't have to, because it doesn't matter

Not wrestling any team in the current format would make sense if the Duals don't matter. Wrestling Edinboro does nothing for Iowa... it is a lose-lose situation. If you win you were supposed to win and if you lose (won't happen) or have an injury, it was for an irrelevant match. At least wrestling VT would provide some nice revenge...
The Brands didn't wait til now to decide not to wrestle VT. Pretty obvious that they were not going to go to Blacksurg no matter what this year unless it was 1 vs 2.

By giving revenue from the dual to their university. BTW, we have wrestled Vag Tech since then. Beat them 31-3 at Iowa State in the national duals in 2012. If it were held at a neutral site, Tom would have no problem wrestling them.
I would enjoy the dual with all the drama that comes with it but I also understand what's at play.

Feel free to share them but be prepared to take the heat when others see through them for what they really are. I am trying to be a gracious host to you Penn State folks who have nothing to discuss on your own board.Not sure if they would have gone even if it was 1 vs. 2. Tom had little recourse after VT screwed those wrestlers but he did hold one ace. The benefit of wrestling Iowa in a dual meet (exposure, crowds, & hype) would NOT be made available to VT whether at CHA or their place.

Revenge??? Lmao! They're reaping what they sowed right now. You honestly think going to Blacksburg and housing them would give Tom any satisfaction whatsoever?? If you say yes you're missing the big picture.
That makes sense to me. And perhaps that's the key to this national duals format...have the dual meets at neutral locations and let's get it on. I hate that we're not wrestling good competition...and I don't mind Edinboro, but I don't think #3 or #4 should go against #24. Why wrestle at all?

He very well could have...but at that point, the boss could've just very quickly told him "adios" and canned the program.

I don't know...if he were going to get rid of it, Brands leaving would have been the perfect excuse. I think they counted on Dresser being an Iowa guy and the guys being more loyal to the program and saying "screw it," we don't want to miss a season.
This is my favorite day of the year, when the NWCA duals are announced! Trolls show up to let us know how Brands should be forgiving and blah blah blah. Vag Tech screwed several wrestlers, and somehow it's up to Brands to take the high road. To those who question Brands, are 100% of your own relationships in order? Hold a grudge against anybody? If so, how about you fix those relationships first, then come back to this board and you can lecture us on how Brands should behave toward Vag Tech.

We appreciate the graciousness and I too extend it to all the HR guys on our board. We don't ask for the HR posters comments either, but they do add a lot of knowledge and information, and on most occasions a level of camaraderie is built. For that I am grateful.
For what it's worth, Goldbanger is a real cool dude and not a typical biased fan (which I am btw). Have never seen him run Iowa or the Brands down that I can remember. Just loves his team and likes to talk wrestling.
SHP does not know it all when it comes to the sport of wrestling. But he's damn close.
No...he admitted as much. I think SHP's questions are about an 11 year old grudge when 2/3 of the parties are no longer at VT. He's a numbers guy so it might not make sense to him why Tom does not want to host/go to Vag Tech.

Bingo. Boss hired me to take over the wrestling program so he should trust me to make the decisions in a non-revenue earning sport that is barely on the bosses radar. Unless of course, I am playing both sides of the fence....telling the boss to stand firm while I quietly tell people in the wrestling community that I am working the issue but shrugs the shoulders and said, "well I tried" when the boss just wouldn't see the light.
But it's all conjecture at this point...right boys? Its just Tom Brands who is being unreasonable.

Then you mean a guy name Barta. He's the AD and Brand's boss. Or are you referring to Dresser...since he got what he wanted you have to assume hisAD was on board as well.
He didn't bring Dresser in to turn around and "can" the program.
Why would a top tier wrestler commit to a program that will screw them if things don't work out? Kid makes a choice realizes it was not a good fit or is a coaching change, sorry kid we are vindictive ass hats. Too bad . Who does that?
