Iowa Water - Tell me experts

I stopped at a Casey's along Hwy. 20 a week ago in Early and all of the coffee, soda, and ice machines were covered with DO NOT USE signs. The town's wells are "dangerously low" due to drought and the local system's water is not safe to drink. I assume similar issues are happening in other communities.

Every town should figure out what Ames is doing and do the same. Maybe hire some of their town engineers as contractors to improve water quality. Ames has the BEST water

We drilled a new well last summer, and he quoted us for a 250' drill. These pumps are not getting any cheaper either.

Depends on where the town is located and how much they are willing to spend.
Some towns depend on private shallow wells, others have deep well community supplies.
The deeper you go, the supply is often more reliable, and the quality can be less susceptible to contamination, but it's obviously more expensive. Some aquifers are heavily used in certain areas. But, excessive usage and a dropping water table is most often cause by industry. Specifically quarries, ethanol plants, and other water intensive businesses.

Ethanol plants use a excessive amount of water. I know it helps the farmers but they should really do away with ethanol plants.
