I went to the Wisconsin game, and the receivers had no separation from the defensive backs. I don't know if this was poor routes or poorly designed schemes. We will need to score a lot of points, or we will end up like Nebraska.

We had seperation multiple times, CJ just couldnt hit anything deep. CJ really struggled in Madison and after watching the game again was far more responsible for our passing game looking bad than the WRs. He needs to flush that game and come back strong.

High winds and new deep threat (timing not down yet) and a Wisconsin defense that is better than many are giving credit for. I think those 3 things effected the passing game as much as anything. CJ will be fine. We are not playing a Wisconsin defense this week. We ARE going to play a physical defense in Chicago though and I do think a little more creativity on the play calling would help. A little more time to throw on many occasions would help as well. On his one pick he had a TE wide open across the middle but Wisky came right up the gut and nailed CJ (right IN the gut) as he tried to throw.

We had three plays in the passing game that could have been big plays. 2 long throws to Smith and the screen pass to Canzieri. But overall we do need a better job of getting separation.

Saturday was not a good day for throwing the football. It was really the perfect storm to have a terrible day thru the air. High winds, very good defense, and QB had a bad day on top of it. Hopefully those 3 things don't combine again this season. I would also like to note that Wisc didn't do much in the pass game, either.

Don't forget that Schobert guy...he hurried CJ often.

Throw in a new LT making his first start vs All-American OLB.

Only re-watched the first half but Croston struggled heavily in pass protection (& Ike less often). Run blocking was solid. CJ made several big plays with his feet and only really missed three throws - two in the endzone w/ one of those a potential PI (regardless not very much room) and the other two to J Smith -- who i thought looked solid for a freshman. I think getting Myers back might be as important as Tevaun. CJ had two outstanding throws to MVB

Need someone other than MVB to catch some passes. Even when T Smith was health MVB was outpacing him...

I don't think there was a huge problem getting open against Wisconsin. There were times they were open downfield and Beathard's passes were off and then most of the time there wasn't enough time for Beathard to find an open receiver because of the pressure.

I suspect teams will use the Wisconsin tape to model their D. Not all teams will have the talent at certain positions, but they'll at least try to do the same things initially.

I think Wisconsin has a much much better defense than Illinois. So, that alone will help. And, as has been mentioned, CJ missed two deep balls in which the receiver (Smith) was open and had a couple steps on the coverage. Both would have been big plays and perhaps touchdowns. The offense played very poorly last Saturday and still beat one of the top teams on our schedule.

Too bad Ahmad Wagner couldn't be an option for receiver. He was offered a football scholarship by Kentucky but could give CJ a 6'-5" receiver to throw to.

Need to throw more to the TEs, and use them for blocking support on the left side as well.

Iowa has got to get their tight ends involved. Theyre lacking at receiver right now, but with Duzey getting back they have 3 really good catching tight ends.
