Fran confirmed this tonight at the banquet that Iowa will participate in the Gavitt Tipoff event, which will annually match a team from the Big Ten against a team from the Big East in the first week of the season.

Fran said Iowa will play on the road this year in the event. Opponent could be announced sometime this week.

Now for those who like to track the non-con schedule: Iowa will host in the Big Ten/ACC this year. They get Drake in the Big Four event in Des Moines and they play at ISU this season. Then we also know they play three games in the Orlando Classic over Thanksgiving, which is a pretty loaded field if you ask me: Wichita State, Notre Dame, Xavier, Dayton, Bama, USC, and Monmouth. At least three and maybe four Top 25 teams in there along with Iowa.

That's a really challenging non-con slate.

Talked to Fran a bit tonight and I asked him about the Big Ten next year and he summed it up in one word, "brutal". He thinks the league will be as tough as it has been in his time at Iowa.
