Iowa Women's Basketball Recruiting Offer/Commitment List

O’Grady oozes with potential, nice touch and runs the floor extremely well. Just needs better upper body strength.
She also needs to develop in the low post. She seems to rely more on turnaround shots rather than moves around the basket like Czinano and Gustafson. I think that could be an important piece to her game, but I don't want it being her main low post option.

Luckily, our coaching staff seems to be better at developing low post offense than almost anyone else in the country.

As for backup 4. McKenna came in and contributed quite a bit as a freshman. Many of you have seen a lot of the two new bigs coming in for next season both 4star top hundred recruits. How do they project in comparison to Mc Kenna as a freshman

Compared to McKenna as a FR they are more athletic, stronger, Hannah is just as good off the bounce if not better, but neither are as good from deep. They will learn a lot from McKenna & I wouldn't be surprised if Hannah is the primary backup for McKenna in 2023. This will be good for the team adding versatile depth that can learn the system & still get some time on the court early which will pay dividends as the season goes on.

I've been up to CR to see 4 of Hannah's games this year and she is much more of an inside physical player than McKenna. She draws a lot of fouls but will need to improve her FT shooting. Honestly, I know the Iowa coaches love Kate Martin but next year I believe Hannah at the 4 and McKenna at the 3 would make for a more formidable starting lineup.

I was confused by the off the bounce comparison. IMO, McKenna is terrible off the bounce, and more likely to fall down or get blocked than make a shot in traffic off the bounce. Every once in a while McKenna gets a match up that she can exploit off the bounce, e.g. Kentucky last year and perhaps MSU the year before, but usually the chances of her ending up on the ground when she drives are greater than the chances of the ball ending up in the basket. So are you saying Hannah is about the same as McKenna off the bounce? That would be disappointing, IMO. Was hoping for better.

I don't see McKenna as being terrible of the bounce with the right matchup. That MSU game (Megan's jersey retirement) showed she is more than capable but she isn't asked to go off the dribble much either, recently more back cuts with one dribble is what they are running. Stuelke is probably a little better off the drive because of her strength & athletic ability compared to McKenna's FR season. They both bring something a little different to the 4 spot which will be fun to watch.

Thanks for the response. I am also a fan of what Warnock brings to the team, but we’ll just have to disagree about her ability to help off the bounce.

Warnock's handle isn't great, so driving to the basket is not her forte. I don't think strength is the issue. And because of her shaky dribbling, I don't feel her playing the 3 spot is ideal.

She was starting to drive when she was a freshman, but didn't seem to that much last or this year. I thought at the time how dominate she could be with that plus shooting the three.

Even though she'll probably go to a blue-blood like UConn or South Carolina, it's cool to see another great Iowa girl's basketball player
And the next few years could change things too. If we actually make a Final Four and bring in good enough recruits the next few years that momentum could continue after Clark, Iowa could become a lot more attractive.

Washington made the Final Four with Kelsey Plum in her junior year in 2016. But they only made Sweet 16 in her senior year, and went downhill fast after that. There was a coaching change after 2017 though, contributing greatly to the decline.

Has anyone seen this girl play and can you offer what her current height is and what her current strengths are versus high school seniors for example? Is she playing on the varsity right now? If so, what high school? Who is she playing with and for in AAU?
I would think she is watching every game Caitlin is playing and might want to be the next great Iowan. I hope she will be at many Iowa games behind the bench in years to come.

2026 PG/SG Jenica Lewis (Grimes, IA)
Offers from Iowa, Ohio St, Marquette, Penn State, Iowa St, Miami Fl, Oklahoma, Florida, Maryland, Louisville, Kentucky, UNC, Ole Miss, Michigan State, Michigan, Kansas, Minnesota and Oklahoma State

Visited Michigan State, Michigan (x2), Louisville, Oklahoma State, Florida, Iowa State and Iowa. Has also went to the Elite Camps hosted by Iowa and Marquette.

Kansas, ISU, Iowa and Oklahoma have went to watch her play according to her Twitter.

We got Caitlin Clark to come to Iowa.
Lewis has mentioned before that her dream school is UConn. That could certainly change in the next few years, but if UConn stays her dream school and she gets an offer, it will likely be hard to say no.

Clark seemed to consider proximity to home a very big factor in her recruitment. She also really liked the idea of making history at Iowa.

Lewis could certainly choose Iowa still, but I'm far less optimistic that happens than I was for Clark.

Things could change at UCONN too, does Lewis like the school or the coach? Geno Auriemma will turn 68 in March so how much longer will he coach? Caitlin told Iowa no once per Bluder, then changed her mind wanting to stay home so a lot can happen.

A lot can change in four years. I think next years class plus getting Goodman back and Iowa will be poised for a deep run next year. If we could get to another Elite 8 or Final Four, it might change the perception of the program.

Agreed. Geno retiring is one of the changes I considered. If Iowa wins a Big Ten title or two in the next couple years, that could also be a big change.

I have no idea how much Wetering may contribute, she didn't have much playing time last year.

i don't think she'll get a ton of minutes but Bluder had commented in one of the Hawk Talks early in the season that she was really coming on prior to her injury and would have seen valuable minutes this year. Look for a healthy Wetering to compete with Gyamfi for the backup 4 spot. Whoever wins that will likely see between 8-10 minutes a game. I think she helps with rebounding and perimeter shooting. She was shooting about 38% from deep as a Sr in HS. She was injured as a freshman and dealt with COVID which kept her out all year. But she's going to have to be healthy. She also could add some size to the 3 and get some minutes there.

It's going to be tough to find minutes for everyone. I hope with a healthier lineup we can settle into a 9-10 player rotation with 7-8 getting the bulk of the minutes and the other one or two getting spot/situation minutes. All three freshman are highly talented. We know what Goodman can do. Tomi and Logan's minutes will have to replaced most likely.

My point is we will be a lot deeper and a lot more dangerous. More size and more 3 point shooters. I don't know how much she'll see the court. I'd compare her to Amanda O with better range.

I know I'm usually one of the optimists around here, but I will be pleasantly surprised if any of next year's freshman make a big impact next year. We will very likely return 11 players from this year's team (if no one transfers). 5 of those are starters, and 3 others have seen significant time in the rotation already. Coach Bluder is also fairly conservative about playing freshman in a significant role unless it's glaringly needed.

Looking at next year's team, there are minutes to be had at the backup 1, backup 4, and probably some backup minutes on the wing. But the backup 1 won't play more than say 5 minutes if Clark is healthy. And close to half of next year's roster could possibly play the 4 depending on how the coaches want to utilize the position. There aren't a lot of minutes to be had unless the freshman start displacing players already in the rotation.

I do believe the freshman will take minutes from the starters. The freshman bring a different mentality to next years team. I think many of them are more aggressive in their style of play, land will hunt shots or look to penetrate and kick. Hopefully they will be more aggressive crashing the boards also.

I don't think any will win a starting spot but I can see them getting minutes if they can effect the flow of the game with good play. Of the freshman McCabe likely has the best chance of picking up 15-20 minutes a game. I love Gabbie but she's a defensive/three point specialist. McCabe is much more natural as a 2 in the read and react offense and I can see her begin to really chip away at Gabbie's minutes at the season progresses.

Even Clark's minutes could go down a smidge. She plays so many minutes by necessity. She's averaging 36 minutes a game and closer to 40 with injuries. I could see her minutes dropping to a more reasonable 31-32 a game if we bring in a transfer PG or McCabe shows any ability at the PG position.

I also think we will starters begin to average in the 28-32 minutes range instead of 34-36 mintues with increased depth if for no other reason than to prevent exhaustion/injury.

That is the most likely scenario. And if Iowa is to get better/take the next step, the new players will have to eat into the PT of the returning players. At least somewhat. Iowa has to improve defensively if they are to turn around the competitive losses to teams like Indiana, OSU, Michigan.

Next year's roster will indeed be very interesting- https://wbbblog.com/iowa-womens-basketball-recruiting/

If McCabe can be a sniper from 3 she will get some minutes. If Monika stays, does Goodman transfer? Might be third on the depth chart behind O'Grady in that scenario.

Does Gyamfi replace Cook behind Warnock? Stuelke get in the rotation? Forgot about Ediger altogether...

I hope for some positive surprises from the freshman class particularly with defense and rebounding. Iowa's roster could be deep at some positions so I do wonder who may consider transferring this summer.

I think it is more likely that O'Grady would transfer if someone does. I see Goodman sharing the center position with Monika next year, then having it herself the following two years. That is assuming that following rehab she returns to her form at the end of her freshman year. And I am not predicting either will transfer.
