It is the first year for the 14-team BTT. This is the 18th year for the conference tourney. For the first 14 years it was an 11-team tourney, in 2012 it became a 12-team tourney and this year it is at 14 teams. All the stats I gathered do NOT include any vacated wins.

What is Iowa's history in the tournament? Iowa is 15-15 overall with two championships. Iowa has been the #5 seed twice and their record is 0-2 with losses in 1998 and 1999. The overall record for the #5 seed is 12-17. By round, Iowa's record is (I am calling the 11-14/12-13 round the play-in round) Play-In round 0-0, Opening round 6-6, Quarterfinals 4-7, Semifinals 3-1 and the Finals 2-1.

The #5 seed is 3-0 in the opening round (only 3 years of data), 8-9 in the quarterfinals, 1-7 in the semifinals and 0-1 in the finals.

Iowa's record verses Nebraska is 0-0 and Iowa's record verses Penn St it is 1-0. With a victory over the winner of the #12/13 game Iowa plays Purdue where Iowa 2-1 against Purdue. Iowa's record verses other teams:

Illinois 1-0

Indiana 2-0

Maryland 0-0

Michigan 0-5

Michigan St 2-4

Minnesota 2-0

Nebraska 0-0

Northwestern 2-1

Iowa has gone one and done (0-1) 10 times, played 2 games (1-1) 3 times, 3 games twice, once going 3-0 and once going 2-1 and 4 games once. Iowa is the ONLY team to go 4-0 in the tourney.

The #5 seed has gone 0-1 seven times, 1-1 eight times and 2-1 two times.

The highest Iowa has been seeded was 2nd (once), 4th twice, this is the third time as the #5, #6 and #9 three times and twice as the 7th, 8th and 10th.

All of the stats are meaningless. As Fran would say. Just worrying about the game in front of us. Rest of the stats a just doesn't matter.

Just for Iowa?

A lot of those overall stats you can probably just find on Wikipedia, or a more college basketball-centric website.

Thanks for compiling that Kuwait.

One potential correction. Is that overall record of 25-25 for Illinois correct? That is 10 more games than any other team in the conference.

I believe Illinois is 25-15, obviously they can't be 25-25. That's an awfully impressive record. It's easy to forget how good that program was under Self.

Was just giving you a hard time as this data probably took a bit to compile. Thanks.

I'm hoping Fran gets his guys ready to play I haven't really seen any BTT tourney magic from him yet and it is still early in his iowa coaching career. There was just something about Alford that got his guys ready to make a run for the conference championship. Remember it like it was yesterday when Horner and the boys took down tOSU. Nothing more heartbreaking to watch that team accomplish that and then lay an egg in the big dance.

Iowa can really use a beat down on Michigan this year. 0-5 against the Wolverines in the BTT? Hope they upset Illinois and Wisconsin to get in the way of Iowa!

I've been to the last 9 tournaments and have seen us win one game.... Not going to Chicago and we'll probably win the whole enchilada.

LOL, I think you got Illinois' wrong. :p

Addressing another poster, Illinois has done remarkably well in this Tournament, and not just under Self (who was only here three years...); Kruger and Weber did quite well, too. I'm sure it doesn't hurt that the BTT is usually in Chicago or Indianapolis, especially Chicago.

Yes, I corrected it. Damn FAT fingers. Actually to be correct, it is narrow keys. I am not allowed to stereo type, even myself.
