Anyone remember this play? Clearly Washington was going to pass it for a TD to one of our tight ends, and it looks like they were open, but he decided to keep it.

I think it goes to show that Lester is a much more creative playcaller than he's given credit for, he just doesn't have the athletes to pull off plays like this. I guess I just wanted to hear everyone's thoughts on it.

Much better play call than a running back doing a halfback pass to a freaking fullback in the B1G championship game. That was so Iowa/BF.

Another "interesting" play call, in Doodle's humble opinion anyway, was Locksley calling for a punt down two touchdowns with 49 seconds left on 4th and 12 from just shy of midfield. As a highly-paid coach of a P4 program, how do you possibly try to explain and defend that decision?

Is "don't give up any more points to Iowa" really your primary concern at that juncture of the game? It certainly seemed like that was the case. What lesson does that teach your players?

In reality, no matter how hopeless the situation may seem, being that completely and utterly gutless should be a fireable offense at any level of football.

TE has inside leverage but he was still pretty well covered. I'm sure the instructions to Washington were to only throw the ball if the TE wasn't covered. As it was that defender was ready and never bit on the run play as was intended.

A key to the success of these trick pass plays is the receiver selling the fake as well.

You gotta try to get the defenders eyes off you and into the backfield, even if he's just being a try hard "I'm only gonna stick to you and follow you around the field no matter where you go and no matter what else is happening on the field" defender.

Watching coach across the field do the same thing over and over and over. Yet, 25 years later.....

More interesting to me is that, at least according to the score graphic, they said Washington didn't gain any yards on that play.

???? Really? You realize that Washington is a running back/slot, and for the most part our FB/TE position is basically interchangeable correct? Hayden Large plays this H position, basically both in our offense. As for the Championship game that was a great play call, and he was wide open. The RB just overthrew him in the endzone. Add in the fact that the defense would be WAY less likely to pick up the FB as they would the TE, which is why he was wide open.

I was shocked as well on that one. He might as well just led his team off the field if he was going to punt there. o_O o_O

Totally not true. During a quarter maybe. Please show an example where Kirk ever punted with a minute left in the game from midfield down two scores. The lengths some of you guys go to trying to embellish these false narratives is ridiculous.

I remember it and noticed it at the time. Wash Jr was clearly not running hard to start off with. The TEnd was barely open but a really good pass just to the left of the receiver had a chance to get in there.

I assume Wash Jr is coached to only throw that if the receiver is wide wide open, no INTs down that close to FG territory especially with only 1 yard for a first down and that play being only 2nd down

We're clearly still starved for some exciting offense if the most interesting play is a gadget play that didn't even work. Lol come on now
