They get to, with the advice and consent of Senate, nominate a new justice IF there is a vacancy (and Mitch McConnell finally drops dead). That's not much of a "check" as I understand checks and balances. The only other direct "check" on a justice is impeachment/removal by Congress. What do you think is more likely? A constitutional amendment (the last actual "check" on the SC) or impeachment and removal? Because those are the only checks that could really influence that body.

i’m not sure I would call Obama the president of anti-immigration policies. He definitely was trying to appear to be tough on crime and deported many many people. But it’s absolutely the Republicans who want to own the issue of being as cruel as possible for immigrants.
