FDR and the Democrats used Big Government to create the first truly strong Middle Class in America or even in the whole world.
The Middle class got stronger and bigger so that we truly did become an example to the whole world. Then Reagan came along and began the demonization of Government. The middle class has gotten smaller and weaker ever since.

Conservatives and Libertarians hate big government because it will cost them some of their money to help create and maintain a strong middle class. That's why they want to cut Social Security, Education, Safety Regulations, Protecting the Environment and anything that helps the Middle Class. Because the Billionaires do not want to pay their fair share to help the country.

I wouldn't agree that big government created the middle class.

Given a level playing field a US middle class will create and sustain itself...

The government does more things than "assistance" or handouts.

For example, without a professional police force, most people would be vulnerable to banditry and would need to seek protection a local strongman. This is actually partly how serfdom and manorialism got started.

Government played a very big role in allowing unions to gain a foothold in industrial America. That led to a strong middle class. A global economy destroyed manufacturing unions. Or at least crippled them. Many other factors have hurt the middle class. Rising cost of college. The basic abolishment of the minimum wage.

If government assistance is required is the middle class strong?
If people can feed and house their families and have healthy lives for their families and some of them are helped to get all of this by the government then they are stronger

‘The middle class has gotten smaller and weaker’….while the government and the bureaucracies and the debt and the deficits and the piles of regulations and taxes have gotten bigger and bigger and bigger.

WWII, GI bill, Unions, Weak Europe, Weak Asia, US manufacturing created the US middle class.

No, I think we need windfall taxes on corporations. Lower middle class taxes to as low as 10 percent, as high as 15. Vouchers for tech schools to increase hvac, electrical, other trades.
I don’t disagree with any of these.

They all require big government

WWII=lots of jobs making stuff for the military=big government

GI bill=big government

Jobs going overseas=failure of government
Big win for big business

The new deal didn't create a strong middle class. Reliance on government isn't a strength.

As far as cutting programs, that's the big lie that's just typical election time fear mongering.

Oh, and Billionaires, and millionaires, already pay a significantly disproportionate share of income taxes.

Would you like for me to hook you up with some links so you can educate yourself? I guess you could just be a troll and aren't interested.
