Is it time for the 4 point shot line?

With players now having some extreme shooting ranges, (Caitlin & Jbo) isn't it about time this came to fruition?

Think how Iowa men's and women's team could benefit. First off, Caitlin would have about 200 (?) more points if not more to her record. JBO would have loved it. The fans would go crazy when a 4 pointer splashed through.

How much further should the line be extended past current 3 point line? 3 feet? 5 feet?

Think of how end of game strategy would be played out. If you're up by 5, do you foul a player past the 4 point line & force them to make 4 in a row? If you're down by 20 with 10 minutes to go, do you bring in the "bomb squad" and shoot nothing by 3's & 4's to try and get back into the game? How does a big man defend a pick & roll 35 feet from the rim? Stretch the defenses out more & you'll see some great isolated play 15 feet and in. Possibly more offensive rebounds as the defense is forced out to the perimeter more & offensive players now sprinting towards the rim, harder to block out.

Fran would start taking players from Grinnell in the portal, lol. Are you ready for the change?

normal 3 point line goes back to 19 feet 6 inches (or whatever it was way back when) and 4 point shot is.....30 feet

No thanks.

The overapplication of the 3pt shot (metric) is already ruining the game
On the one hand, the argument would be that it would stretch defenses even more and rid the game of garbage pack the lane zone defenses that helped usher in the outside shooting 3 pt craze in the first place.

On the other..........you are absolutely rignt.

Might also lead to A LOT of bad shots from people who shouldn't be shooting from that deep.. 🥹

Well the Celtics basically only shoot layups or 3’s. And they just won the NBA title. Might not be the game we grew up with or you might not like it but it’s not changing.

i don't think its such a bad idea... and the women's game would be the place to try it out.

push it back to 27' and see what happens. how many in the league are even capable of shooting one that deep? 1 anyway.

there have been other change the game trials before... who remembers when the big east men's conf tried out 6 fouls before fouling out for a few years?

No. But I do think the three-point line should have an outer limit of the half-court line. Heaves for backcourt should only be worth two. Yes, I hate fun.

I wouldn't mind the 3pt line moving back even further, maybe to 25 or 26 feet. Something to bring back shots other than 3pt and layups.

And/or (and I'm just throwing out ideas) make shots in the lane only worth 1 point, while moving the 3pt line back. Anything that would encourage a variety of shots.

How about if you hoist one from inside the opponent's 3pt arc and it goes in your hoop, its worth 6 points?

Maybe put different little circles around the court - between 3pt arc and on to the half-court line - and designate them 4 or 5 or 7 or 10, etc, point shots??
