Is Netflix worth it?

I’m starting to question it. If I go to Netflix to look for something to watch, I get the same vibe as I used to when I’d flip through the $4.99 DVD bins at Walmart. Every once in awhile something you’ve seen or heard of, but mostly straight to video. I don’t know what we pay monthly but thinking about dropping it.

How about you?

I don't have Netflix, and have no desire to.

.... but I've heard that the only way to watch the NFL games on (either or both) Thanksgiving/Christmas day this fall/winter, will be via Netflix streaming.

No clue if that is total BS or not, but wouldn't be the least bit surprising if it is true.

You are correct. The new ads also suck.

I dropped it several months ago and haven’t really missed it. I’m not sure if it was due to their crackdown on password sharing or what happened exactly. But one day I was no longer allowed to watch Netflix on my phone. It worked on my computer and on my tvs but every time I tried to use the app on my phone it said it wasn’t an authorized device, even when I was sitting in my house.

I suppose I could have called customer service and waited on hold until I could talk to someone in India and explain to them that my phone should be an authorized device. But I didn’t really feel like wasting my time to convince them to give me what I had paid for and was rightfully mine. So it was easier to just cancel and enjoy the half dozen other streaming services I use.

I haven’t been able to watch Seinfeld’s Pop Tarts movie as a consequence, but I think I’ll survive.

For us, it is... I think we get it cheap through with my T-Mobile or my better half's Verizon accounts.

We rotate streaming services and I don’t understand why everyone doesn’t do that. So for instance, when House of Dragons starts again in a few weeks, I’ll cancel Netflix and subscribe to HBO. Then after we’ve caught up on all of our HBO content, we’ll move onto something else. And in about a year we’ll be back to Netflix and there will be a bunch of good material built up while we were gone.

We are always subscribed to about two streaming services, but we are constantly changing which two.

Missing the poptart movie is a net positive

It’s a good idea. Most people, myself included, don’t have the level of doing something like this consistently.

What if there was a secondary service that a guy could pay like $5 a month that would do the streaming services rotation on behalf of pre chosen preferences?? Pay $5 but save probably $30-$50 a month with a rotation service. Minimal to no maintenance.

I just cancel after subscribing. Once a months up I have to decide to resubscribe or checkout another one

Ya the Christmas games will be on Netflix.

Yes, and your mom raised her prices this year. Inflation, bro!

Currently re-binging Cobra Kai with my son in prep for Season 6, so yes, it's worth it.

God damn. How ****ing poor are you poors? All this to save $20?

I think we're going to start to see more "subscribe to Walmart+/Instacart/Uber Eats/etc. and get a free subscription to Peacock/Paramount/Max/etc." now that the boom years of streaming are over and people are trying to cut costs.

I do this too. At one point I had Netflix, Max, Hulu, Disney, Peacock, Paramount and AppleTV all at the same time, in addition to Prime, and rarely found much to watch on most of them. Now I just keep Prime and maybe 1-2 of the rest of them at any given time, rotating which ones while I wait for new seasons of shows to come out.

Yeah for sure. There’s rumors Max and Disney are gonna offer a bundle. That’s all the evidence I need that streamers are struggling.

For me it isn't so much the money of monthly/yearly subscription - its being held hostage and forced over a barrel if I want to watch traditional NFL games on the biggest, most well-known holiday of the year.

Same goes for being forced to sub to Peacock just to be able to watch all the Hawkeye football & basketball games.
