Is there any chance that the UI athletic department opens the doors for all fans to get in free tonight?

Iowa City is a mess and has been hit harder than most areas with the snow. Currently in our neighborhood near CHA, we have 7-8 inches with 3 more predicted to fall by 9PM. It's clearly not safe to drive and that leads me to believe that fan turnout tonight will be minimal. It would behoove the powers that be to consider making tonight a free admittance game for anyone who can walk, hike, ski and/or skate to the game.

100? Jesus H. If there was ever a night to say the first 2000 it’s this one. Come on. How embarrassing. What if 500 come down to get a free ticket walking thru the snow and get turned away. Do they think that the students will just pay up on the spot. Real shortsighted for one game that the team REALLY could use the support.

I’m reading it as free tickets for ALL students, but the first 100 get Panchero’s as well.

I don’t think any student going will be turned away or charged admission.

Iahawks10, you are correct.

It's easy to say that tickets should be free. But, how many tickets have already been sold? How do you handle the seating?

I like the idea, but maybe not so simple.

I thought they should have done this for the rescheduled EILL game; perhaps a crowd would have given the team the boost they need.

No way 15k people would show even if it were free, it has been snowing here all day. Just let people in and they can figure out seating; ticket holders get their assigned seat and everyone else figure it out and play nice.

"Every student ID gets in free along with free sandwhich, soda (beer if 21+) and ICE CREAM!"

At least, that's what they should do

you still have assigned seats, the game isn't sold out

the ticket office would just hand out the non-sold seats out for free

Yep and it’s no different than buying a seat normally (just now there’s no charge). You’d purchase them online like always.

I looked to see what they considered “student tickets” and it appears it’s for U of Iowa students only because you need to log in with your student email. Sometimes when they discuss student ticket pricing it generally means anyone under 18 or still going to school.

I'm going to be there. It's not great but it's not impossible to drive.

I remember when they did that for a game when I was in college. I couldn't get my car bailed out so I said eff it and ran. Got there just in time for tip. We were awful under the Lick era and lost a competitive game to Wisconsin.

The marketing over the past few years (since the Covid shut down) has been lacking. Even before that most people didn’t think it was anything special.

Unless I’m missing it, which would be weird with all of the social media, they don’t do “$1 dog night”, the family four pack for like $44 or something, the senior bobbleheads, etc. It just seems the university could be doing a lot more to get people to the games, especially the Iowa Students.

Having said all that, a reasonably priced ticket is enough to get me there, but I realize I’m the exception.

My daughter and I will be heading up soon just a half hour away though I could definitively see why people won’t drive tonight! Go Hawks

At least throw a free beer, soda, or hot dog or something to those 101 and those that follow. It's on espn 2, would be nice if it was close to full. Understandable if it's not

FWIW, the snow should be winding down for IC and areas to the west in the next 30 min or so, might not be enough time to help the roads but the snow should be ending soon for most of the area.

wish there were a way for those who can't use their tix to give them up, where the tix get transferred to HawkeyeSports.com, where people who could use them could grab them
Could always just post a thread on here, that's what the wrestling fans do when there is a non premier opponent and guys are trying to dump their tickets for little or nothing. They usually get swooped up
