Is there really a war on cops?

It seems like there have been several cases in the last year where a cop has been killed at random strictly for being a cop. Any idea on the statistics of those cases? I've wondered if it is happening more often now, or we are just hearing more about them when they do happen.

The killings seem much more premeditated and brazen. Numbers may be down, but the way that they are happening seems worse.
