One of those games where by default of Notre Dame's national fan base, the game will probably get at least 5 to 6 million viewers and be one of the most-watched non-New Year's Day bowl games....yet Cyclone fans will think it shows Iowa State is popular.

The only reason I can think of ND being in this game is since it's on ABC it'll ensure the Irish are playing on a broadcast network. But still, it's having to go head to head with the NY6 Cotton Bowl.

You laugh but I remember when commentator Todd Christiansen referred to Iowa State as the Hawkeyes in Iowa State's bowl game against Pitt. It was Iowa State's first bowl since the 70s.

They could have tried their luck as a BIG member, but don't think they want any part of that every year, so better to stay outside and slide in some years with an 11-1, maybe even 10-2 year. Hell of a drop all the way to the "Who wants to pitch a tent", bowl against the Ronald McDonalds though.....

May have been a case they wanted to ensure both bowls get a decent television viewing audience. The Alamo has been one of ESPN's biggest non-NY6 bowls. Hard saying, just a theory.

Cool. I hope they found a solid opponent for N.D. and not some unranked, 5-loss nobody team that they were probably strong-armed into selecting. Any word on this?

If you find me solid proof that the CWB selected ISU over Texas on its own accord as Notre Dame's opponent, I will streak all the way from Iowa to Orlando to watch the game.
