At the risk of starting yet another thread about ISU , I thought this was interesting. Supposedly, ISU Pres. Leath

Nothing said about being transfer U, however.

According to Randy Peterson, Leath said: "When this process started, I told Jamie I did not want a coach that was going to publicly humiliate players, throw chairs onto the court and kick," the president said. "That was important to me. Winning was hugely important to me."

Why would this bother you? Do you think it was a reference to Mad Fran? I don't recall him publicly humiliating any players. My interpretation of the reference to chairs was that it was a generic reference to Bobby Knight-type antics. It's not like Iowa State has always had guys who behaved like Faultless Fred on the sideline. Do the names Tim Floyd and Larry Eustachy ring any bells? Johnny Orr was known to raise a little hell from time to time, as well.

Since you're going to infer something about someone's reading comprehension I suppose I'll continue. Why do you think it bothers him? Did he say it did? Or did he just say he found it interesting?

I didn't get this from Pete. I've about quit reading his stuff, just don't have the time or inclination to read his two plus articles a day, which was about the number even before the Hoiberg event. Many of them seemed then to be just writing for the sake of writing--the guy needs a rest, with pay, of course. My "roommate says so, too. Anyway I read it in the Sunday Register's Roses and Thistles section. They gave Leath a rose for his" protecting ISU's image."
I doubt Leath is watching reruns of Floyd's and Eustachy's games, BTW.. And we all know, as you have said, Fred lucked out with his bad guy transfers (except for mainly one). No, I guess my main bother is with the Register for implying things as the section goes on. And you were the one who said "Mad Fran." And don't be citing that "Let's be mad again" from the UI SID!

It's about "you" if you make it about "you". If not it will go away.

I inferred it bothered him because of the way he phrased the comment and the reference at the end to the transfers.

Fran has thrown a chair to the floor not out on the floor and he has kicked the officials table a few times. He has ripped his players as individuals and as a team a few times, but whether some may take that as humiliating players or not, that's up to others to judge.

For some reason this is interesting to me. Not just that Leath felt the need to express this to Pollard, but that he later he brings it up again. Personally, it matters not one bit to me who Leath had in mind. It could be McCaffery, Bobby Knight, former Iowa State coaches. I don't care and won't speculate as to who was on his mind or what he considers humiliating players.

I have my own opinions as to all the coaches I mentioned as examples and as to what Leath thinks or doesn't think? Again, I don't care.

But it is the twice mentioning it that I find kind of odd. Why doesn't he simply say he wanted a squeaky clean guy that would never embarrass Iowa State...oh, and wins a lot of games. And, did Leath feel that without specifically telling Powell that he didn't want a Black Hat wearing coach, that Pollard might very will pick one?

IMO, either Leath is at least a tad bit of a control freak, or Pollard must exude some traits of a risk taker, at least to Leath. I'd like to sit in on some of their conversations.

Leath, "The balls are still round, right? I don't want any sharp edges!"
Pollard, "Yes, the balls are still round."
Leath, "Have you thought about my idea of padding the court to prevent injuries? I still think we need a padded court!"
Pollard, "The players can't dribble the ball on a padded court."
Leath, "That sounded a little like you were humiliating me." :)

Golly gee, I don't remember Fran ripping individual players, as I far as I define ripping. He's said the team wasn't tough and as I remember , those times were pretty much prompted by the media asking that. The chair thing at MSU could be interpreted as ripping, as it was to fire up his own team. Quite a few fans think he over praises his players;; Okay, now refresh my memory about ripping his players.

If you wouldn't mind my opinion. I think Fran is extremely optimistic of his players abilities. I've seen mentioned as well that Fran may over-praise his guys, especially before the season. You know, this guy had the best summer ever, that guy is playing better than he ever did!! That sort of thing.

I've come to believe Fran really believes this stuff. That's great until it comes to producing during games. ;) That's when sometimes I've seen him take a Devyn Marble or somebody and get in their face in a rather intense manner. But I think most of the guys respond well to it, and know Fran is trying to bring out the best in them.

And if one notices, some players don't get the same treatment because McCaffery knows it doesn't work. Olaseni for one, if Fran had ever gone extreme on Gabe, as hard as Gabe was on himself?

Anyway, I think that's part of what we see, the other part is a pale skinned guy who's every emotion gets displayed..including with the bright red color changes like a chameleon.

OK. I'll play the part of Mr. Oversensitive....If he did say this, I think Leath was taking a shot at Coach McCaffery. The "Little Brother" syndrome goes all the way to the top at Moo U.
