Beth better get in line. Bump Elliott hired Lute Olsen - last final four team and Tom Davis - last elete eight team. He also hired Hyden Fry who brought Iowa football out of the abyss. Also must add, Dan Gable who led Iowa to numerous national championships.
Story about Bump, and he called this on himself. He had struck out with Lauterbur and Commings, and as much as admitted that Fry was his last shot as AD. A miss with Hayden and Bump would have been looking for a job. But yes, Bump made some great hires in the history of Iowa athletics.

I remember Hayden telling the story that Bump said "you better win or we'll both be out of here". FWI, I always like Bob Cummings, he was left with a shit show and had it going in the right direction. Hayden took his players and did the unthinkable, had season tickets when Hayden started, some great memories.

This part is understandable
This part is bullsh*t. People were certainly trying to be optimistic, especially after having had it with Alford, but Lick was not nearly as sought-after as BMac, and his intro press conference was absolutely cringe-worthy.
