It’s only been 2 weeks…

…but what a glorious two weeks it has been.

Except that he likely got little if not nothing out of Canada and Mexico and pulled back after he saw the stock market response.

The dude cares about appearing tough and getting attention. He also cares about not pissing off his rich friends.

It's been even better than I imagined and leadership is due to be confirmed this week. Then the real work starts. Poor colonoscopy is in absolute shambles atm.

Sounds like Rubio doesn't seem to think it's a criminal organization like Musk.

What's happening is Trump and Musk using this as a big attention getter, a reason to take a victory lap and puff their chests. That's what those two have a history of doing anyway.

That's the real story. We'll likely continue to fund a bunch of stuff in USAID and most of the spending will probably carry on as normal.

You have no idea what most of the USAID funding actually was. Elon just bitched about a tiny fraction of it.

Well…..

Maybe so. Perhaps some transparency and accountability would go a long way towards their credibility.

I don’t think it is debatable that government programs sometimes end up going far beyond the scope of their purview and waste tax dollars while doing so. That statement really shouldn't be controversial.

The pushback from the unelected bureaucrats crowd speaks volumes.

So for those that think it is illegal what’s happening but we are actually seeing what we all thought was wasteful spending getting brought to light and fixed, is this a bad thing or good thing? Also, aren’t a lot of left wingers on this board against a lot of our foriegn CIA practices through the years? Isn’t this good that they are getting called out?

@Moral this is me two siding it

We all want waste out of the government. I want to see us cut a massive hole into our budgets and increase government revenue to fix the deficit.

But the end does not always justify the means. If you break laws while stomping over the rights of government employees and/or private citizens to find the savings then you simply should find a better way. We could easily find all these savings without giving 19 year olds unfettered access to highly sensitive information.

In the end though, the way they are doing this is a deliberate distraction from the fact that Trump is not fixing inflation, has no plan to fix inflation and in fact his policies are highly inflationary. That is the core issue that brought him to Washington and he can’t and won’t fix it - so might as well brow some red meat to his base.

Is it just me or does anyone else smell jealousy from a lefty who knows Trump get things done besides just the tripping and falling Biden did?

100% this. Mexico and Canada both agreed to do what they were already doing and somehow these numpties count it as a win. Hilarious.

Trying to reign in government spending will not affect inflation? Excessive government spending had a significant impact on our current inflation issue

I’m not opposed to finding government waste. I’m opposed to HOW we are finding government waste.

So far the vast majority of spending cuts I have seen are money spent outside our borders…no that is not going to impact domestic inflation much. Once we get into massive reduction of Federal employees I could see that have a marginal dampening of demand. I highly doubt that will cause companies to drop prices. It is much more likely to create economic distress in areas where local economies are highly dependent on government spending (DC, Appalachia, etc).

NGL watching the left scramble yesterday was pretty funny.

"Biden got the same deal as trump"

Bidens deal was for the southern border and there is zero evidence Mexico followed through...

Reeeeeeeeee

"Canada was already going to do that"

In addition to the money Trump got them to commit to a fentanyl task force.

"They were already gonna do it!!"

Clearly they weren't or they already would have. Trump forced their hand and they bowed down almost immediately. The tariffs aren't off the table either. They're going to comply or they're going to get the hose again.

That’s not true, google it
Trump said the talks would be headed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary nominee Howard Lutnick and high-level representatives of Mexico. Sheinbaum said she was reinforcing the border with 10,000 members of her country’s National Guard and that the U.S. government would commit “to work to stop the trafficking of high-powered weapons to Mexico.”

In 2019, when Mexico’s government also avoided tariffs from Trump’s administration, the government announced it would send 15,000 soldiers to its northern border.

I think many Americans realized that various politicians tried to do what you say “the nice way” and nothing ever got done.

So they voted for the guy who is not so nice after decades of seeing the nice way not work for the people.

Makes sense after all, if a bloated agency is lining its own pockets for years, do we really expect them to just stop and hand it all over? Of course not, we’d expect each one is going to put up a big fight. Now we have an administration that is actually throwing punches.

Neither Trump nor Elon knows. You and I don't know. And Rubio isn't going to challenge them.
You don't see this being a giant problem. Giant NGO partner with basically unlimited funding and almost no oversight. The people squealing now are the ones that were getting rich off of your money.

Wait, you think there is oversight now? Who is telling Musk "no, you can't do that?"

Without context, this means nothing. Just because a payment was made doesn't automatically mean "MONEY LAUNDERING!!!!" Pretty ridiculous to immediately jump to that conclusion. Intelligence gathering is not free and the easiest way to get it is to pay people to just tell you what they know. Most spying isn't highly trained special operatives hacking through security to sneak into a building and steal some documents from a computer in the CEO's office. Most of it is just paying the janitor to take a snapshot of some papers with his phone and then emailing the pictures to the contact.

We don't know what that money was used for. By the way, that doesn't mean I don't think we should find out, however it's classified for a reason. We don't want that janitor to lose his head because Elon Musk wants to prove a point about spending and people were forced to identify their assets.

Literally Donald trump. He's publicly stated in interviews that he's told him no on things (isn't it great to have a president who is capable of doing interviews again btw?)

With what we now know why do you believe they deserve the benefit of the doubt at all? It seems to me that these payments absolutely should be looked into to verify whether or not they're as dubious as they seem at face value.
