IT guys, network question

We bought a wifi extender for our bedroom, which also is home to a chrome cast. For whatever reason we could always get good network signal in there but never reliability. Pages would barely load if at all and chrome cast was hit or miss. Internet service is 50 Mbps a month so that isn't an issue and everywhere else we get perfect speed and coverage.

Some reason the extender seemed to do the trick? Why is this? My understanding was the extender only pushes the signal further but stretches it's speed down a bit. Seems like we have no issues with speed and reaibility now, despite no real improvement in signal strength (which never was the issue). Seems like a lot of interference was the issue, did the extender really work?
