...are going to start taking the lead.

George Will makes the case for GOP voters to start getting real, and stop thinking about people like Fiorina, Carson, and Trump. I'm not sure Christie is my first choice, but at least he's in touch will reality and somebody I could live with in the White House. Hopefully other grown-ups will tell the kids to go clean their rooms so the GOP can get serious about picking a candidate.

Too fat

The polls certainly aren't showing this. A new one out today finds that Trump is on top once again with 28% while Carson and Cruz are tied at 18%. Rubio would be my first choice for the Republicans "adults," but he is at 11%, which is where he's been pretty much this entire time.

I'm not saying there's been any affect yet; Will's column was just published today. I'm hoping this is an opening salvo, that others will join in, and we'll see this reflected in the polls over the coming months.

The "adults" combined have about 38% of the likely primary voters. If they would pull together they could overtake Trump and Carson. Rubio leads the "adults" by a slim margin over Cruz. IMO Rubio is easily the most electable of any of the candidates, including Trump and Carson. Maybe time for the Godfather to intercede?

BTW, I'm fairly certain that that twerp Karl Rove is trying to use this strategy to run Jeb up the flag pole.

No, I mean the people who are to be taken seriously. Trump and Carson are not to be taken seriously.
None of them have earned the right to be taken seriously. The problem with the hopefuls is they're guided by their media and base first, individuality doesn't exist within the GOP.

And it does int he Democratic party?

I'm not sure that the folks who are intending to vote for Trump or Carson read the Washington Post. o_O

Yes, but if Trump and Carson's supporters pulled together, they could crush the mainstreamers. They combine for 46%. This should be concerning for the right.

You right. I forgot to look at the other side of this.

One big question I have is where the Cruz supporters will go? Does he have a chance of overtaking Trump? Can he stay out in front of Rubio? He, or at least his supporters, could be the X-factor in this race. 17% is quite the share.

So EVERYONE except Sanders.
True, Sanders doesn't seem to be either elitist or condescending. He's also not in the GOP per the OP, so we can't consider him. I was referring more to George Will and his ilk. ;)

George Will predictably arguing the authoritarian position.

I clicked on Will's link to Christie's speech. It wasn't a link to Christie's speech. Annoying. But I suppose I didn't really expect better. He's been an ass for at least the last decade. Probably longer. Pluperfectly unserious, to borrow his own phrase.

This actually fuels the fires that have put steam in the Trump and Carson campaigns. It goes to the belief that real American's aren't represented by the other candidates, and it's time to go outsider with Trump or Carson. Cruz floats around the fringes hoping to be the one to pick up the pieces when one of those two eventually implodes.

This is what worries me most. Cruz is the worst remaining candidate with a reasonable chance of landing in the White House (now that Walker is toast).

I expect both Trump and Carson to fade. Cruz is already closing in and if he gets even half of their supporters (while the rest are scattered among the other remaining candidates), he has a clear lead that might even become insurmountable.

This is why I am so discouraged that most efforts are aimed at dethroning Donald and Ben. They are pretenders. Meanwhile, the real cause for alarm gets no scrutiny.

Even George Will, despite coming out for Christie, is not taking on Cruz. Some Trump fans may migrate to Christie just based on the fact that they are both blustering east coasters. But none of the Carson fans are coming his way.

This neglect of the real threat is a mistake whether you are on the left or a mainstream Republican like Will. Focus a lot more on Cruz. Donald and Ben will find their own exits in due time.

Please get rid of Cruz even my 9 year old knows he is full of Sh!t when he tries to mesmorize you through the cameras with what he thinks is charm and relating to the average American.
