It was good to be a teenager in 1984

Counterpoint: watching (scrambled) porn in the 80s was a lot more frustrating

I'm more of a music guy than a movie guy. I turned 15 in 1978. Among the groups who released their debut albums:

The Cars
The Police
Dire Straits
Devo
Van Halen
In addition, the Stones released Some Girls, Elvis Costello released This Years Model, Cheap Trick released one of the great concert recordings of all time, and Grease was the word. There's a strong case for it being the greatest music year of the rock era.

Van Halen first album was 78? Huh

Growing up in the John Hughes era was great for teen movies. My high school aged kids prefer 16 Candles, Breakfast Club, Ferris Buller, and Weird Science to anything that comes out for their age group now.

Come to think of it, not much has come out recently for that age group; is it lack of creativity or is there limited audience with a majority of kids staring at phones all day?

Hollywood is lazy right now.

You lost it at devo as rock.

I only saw one of the movies listed in the movie theatre. Ghostbusters. Two young kids at the time ages 4 and 6.
I have never been a big movie guy.

I turned 16 in ‘78 and couldn’t agree more with your post.

I was 13, and that was a fantastic year. I still remember looking in the newspaper wondering how the heck I could see all those movies, and if my Mom would let me. Unreal that The Natural didn't even make that list. Other movies from that year that I loved as a kid are Breakin', Friday the 13th Part 4, Purple Rain, Red Dawn and Oh God You Devil.

Add in my beloved '84 Cubs and some personal accomplishments, and that was probably the best summer of my life.

Those Cars and Van Halen albums are two of my favorites of all time. Outstanding. I have listened to both in the last week.
