It's Amy Coney Barrett

I expect protests within ten minutes after the official announcement. It'll be quite sad actually.
In 8 working days, the FBI and the Senate will have to,

  • FBI conducts background check
  • Senate conducts own background check
  • Obtain and read over 100 7th District opinions written by her
  • Plan strategy and line of questioning for hearings
  • Setup hearings
  • Hold hearings
  • Allot time for Senators to decide
  • Schedule vote
  • Hold vote
The corner cutting will be insane to get all of this done.

15 years of solely academic work experience, followed by only a few years of federal court experience, for a lifetime appointment to the highest court of the land, seems about right.
So Trumpian. As is her cult membership. This woman is mentally ill...

Not at all. It will be quick and clean.

MAGA!
See my other post. There is a reason why confirmations take an average of 67 days. There is a lot to do. Even if Rs claim you can finish each step in just one day, an insane timeline, they still fall short a day.

Meh - court experience is beneficial at the trial court level. SCOTUS isn't ruling on evidentiary motions or trying to conduct trial....it's not the fact finder.

This is why every last opinion of hers must be analyzed. This alone would take weeks.

Yep, who needs actual experience applying the law. 15 years of philosophically talking about it to 20 something year olds, is suffice.

Yay! Taking away a woman’s ability to choose what to do with her body based on cultish religious views!

The gradual stripping of personal liberties and increasing the level of influence by our corporate masters is fun!

You really don't. Appellate work is primarily reliant on briefs. The justices are not deciding factual issues. They are accepting the facts as determined by the record at the trial court and looking at the statute or case law.

The issue for democrats is that they are so bad at framing a difficult and nuanced issue in a way that it can easily be consumed by the masses. The abortion issue should have been framed as a right to privacy issue--as Blackmun argues in his opinion.

Here, I would go after her on gay rights and marriage rights. Bring up Kennedy's opinion and get her to admit Kennedy's opinion was overbroad. She will still be confirmed, but you will make gain a lot of ground with centrist.

Background checks? Didn't they do that the last time she was confirmed as a federal judge?

Shouldn’t we do a background check on her husband too, since she has to run everything by him? And anyone want to take bets when this election business hits the Supreme Court, she won’t recuse herself?

Relax, her clear religious zealotry won’t influence her decisions. Besides, just think of how many Muslim fundamentalists Biden can nominate when he expands the SCOTUS. Nominees’ religious beliefs are no big deal, right cons?

the hypocrisy is just incredible, whether it is Trump, McConnell or others, there is always a tweet saved in time that will show what repulsive and hypocritical people we are dealing with in the White House and Senate, they will do ANYTHING to maintain and increase their power and won't flinch for a split second if they have to trample on american citizens or the democracy of the United States formed over two centuries.
