I've Got Friends....In Rapey Places

In addition to sexual assault and battery, the suit accuses Brooks of repeatedly exposing his genitals and buttocks; talking about sex and sharing sexual fantasies with Roe; regularly changing his clothing in front of Roe; and sending sexually explicit text messages.

From an evidentiary standpoint, I’d imagine those are golden, and pretty unimpeachable.

I’m just here to say ‘Friends in Low Places’ might possibly be the most overrated song in the history of music. I cringed every time I heard it way back in the day when it came out, and I cringe even more when I hear it today. But people seem to geek out on it whenever it’s played, so to each their own I guess. Same with ‘American Pie.’

And all those allegations of him allegedly liking the dudes as well isn’t going to help his reputation with the type of folks who typically listen to his music. NTTAWWT.

Is there any country music that isn’t cringe inducing? Blows me away that people listen to this trash.

Seems like something we should wait to see how the evidence pans out. Initial court filings don't prove a thing they are just claims.
Agreed. She claims he sent her explicit text messages, so it should be difficult to track those down. Hotel records could also confirm the claim of sharing a single room.

Unless she is like Mel Tucker’s career hitwoman, who deleted all the evidence.

I have no idea whether these allegations are true. But I’m always a little skeptical when the victim allows the behavior to go on for a period of time before eventually filing a lawsuit rather than pursuing criminal charges.

From the description it sounds like the abuse lasted over a year. How long does a normal person being subjected to those sorts of actions say to themself, “It’s been a year of this shit. If he walks out of that bathroom one more time naked with a boner and makes me touch it and then grabs my breasts, I’m putting in my two week notice.”?

I feel the same way. and not because it's been played a thousand times. I thought it sucked when it first came out. I don't know why it's still loved and Achy Breaky Heart is not. Same shit IMO.

Agreed . . . And we could be totally wrong and maybe this is the straw that breaks the camels back and 100 different women come out and accuse Brooks.

But I remember the Duke LaCrosse case and the UVA rape case and in both cases everyone was too quick to call people guilty and little in the way of apologies came after the evidence proved they did nothing wrong.

Garth vehemently denies any wrong doing.

Throw away my vinyl or not...

Give it time. Guy has been in the music business for a lot of years with a clean record and no accusations. That doesn't mean this is totally false but there is a lot of reasons to say that the accuser needs to prove their accusations.

Dude, same.

I can still remember hearing that song in college. I can remember the bar I was at, the seat I was in, as everybody was singing along with it. All I could think is WTF is going on?! At a time when Nirvana Nevermind, Pearl Jam Ten and the Metallica Black album were released within six weeks of each other, people were listening to Garth? I was dumbfounded.

I read a statement from him saying this woman has been harassing him for millions of dollars for a long time. Says he filed an extortion claim against her last month. I think maybe something sexual happened and she's trying to cash in. I'm waiting to see before I judge.

I mostly agree, though sometimes women can be afraid of being ostrasized if they are the only person going public against a powerful person. That said, apparently 'Roe' tried to extort Brooks before filing her suit.

right. if everything was black and white every crime would be reported immediately and all witnesses would cooperate. and everyone would agree that it was just . But we know not all situations are equal

He raped you and constantly groped you and you just kept working for him doing hair and make up? Sounds realistic.

Rich people need to avoid this shit. In my company, if I talk to any female, I have another female in management present. And everything is dated and documented. Paranoid? Yup, but worth it. These days you can piss your career away in seconds.

That being said, Garth ain't right in the head. If you do a Google on him, lots of interesting and weird things pop up. Are they true? Who knows? But my guess is, the woman has evidence in the form of text messages minimally and this guy couldn't control his johnson.

Wife and I have tickets to see him in Vegas in March and are on the fence. If we hadn’t already put out a couple grand we wouldn’t go. I’m not big on cancel culture but I draw the line at SA. Even alleged. The only thing staying my hand is that he did file a lawsuit saying she tried to extort him. I’ll bet he has messages and emails as well.

Generally I would say people are innocent until proven guilty. Even if this is going via civil law and not criminal law.

And it does make me wonder why she never pursued the criminal path first.

I mean, look at the Diddy cases. He did this shit to 100s of people over decades and nothing legally happened until this year.
