My FIL was like this his last 3-4 years. Died at 91. Never wanted to leave the house or go into public as he wanted to be remembered as strong, smart, quick, etc.
I think the only time he left the house the last couple years was to go to his brothers funeral. Had enough $$ for full time caregiver/s.
